Tempest Rain discrepancy

I am new to my Tempest but not to Weather Display. I have searched the threads but have not found an answer. My Weather Display is showing the raw rain from Tempest, while my Tempest app is showing the adjusted rate. Cronweatherflow is showing 12.5147mm (.492") my Tempest app shows 0.28". I’m baffled. In my app I have “Show NC Rain” ON. I just don’t understand why the Cron is picking up raw data. I’ve attached several pictures to clarify. My Settings Cronweatherflow
Thanks in advance.

Yep, that’s exactly what happens. My guess is that the Tempest folks know their haptic sensor is not capable of reliably measuring rainfall. The problem is it can’t determine the size of the rain drops.

Much like the NWS, if you want the forecast for your specific location, they will extrapolate data from nearby stations and “guess” your local conditions. The WxFlow folks due the same thing with rain. They will compare your raw data with nearby stations and “guess” what you actually received for rain amount.

In all fairness, the Tempest “corrected” rain amount for my location is usually pretty close to what my VP2 measures. It’s unfortunate that the haptic sensor is a poor substitute for a tipping device. More often than not my Tempest records double what the VP2 records. But if the raindrops are the perfect size the Tempest and VP2 will agree.

I admit, as a weather enthusiast, I expect/demand that what I publish to my sites is the raw data from my sensors. Ever since I got into this hobby I have tried to avoid having dependencies on outside sources. Not always possible, but that is my goal.

I feel your frustration. Unfortunately I don’t have a solution. I will say that besides the shortcomings of the haptic sensor I am pleased with the performance of the Tempest station.

Thanks for the info. I just wonder why the corrected total is not picked up by cronweather. A mystery. Thanks again.

You’d have to ask Brian…unfortunately he does not visit this forum any more so email is our only option nowadays

Thanks for the reply.
