Hello other users of this nice software,
I run version 10.12a with a maximum time of three days before its stops So I must reboot the Computer every day. It runs on a Windows 2000 PC PII 400 mHz, 256 mb. WD is the only program that runs on that computer.
On a other Windows 2000 PC, PII 400 mHz, 384 mb. there runs WeatherLink, WsWin32, Heavy Weather, Heavy Weather Publisher and Webcam software. At this moment 20 days and 7 hours without a reboot
How stable is Your Weather Display :?:
on Windows 2000 Pro and on Windows XP Pro on a 350 MHz Pentium 2 with 256 MB Ram, I would need to restart WD approximately every 4 days or so. Running it now on a 1.4 G AMD Duron with 384 MB Ram, XP Pro. Have seti at home, zone alarm, norton Antivirus and WD all running and reboot after 10-12 days, or whenever I feel Iām getting too far behind on versions. Iām too impatient to let it go until it drops. I feel Iād get too far behind.
Iām running version 10.12 and itās been up for 6 days and thatās only because I rebooted to add a new lightning detector. I canāt remember the last time WD crashed.
Hi
there was a bug with the daily averages/extreme that I have fixedā¦so try the latest version
But also keep an eye on the memory use with task manager of weatherd.exe
but normaly the pc and wd should be able to run ok for weeksā¦for the majority it doesā¦
but if you are using wd to capture web cam images, then a more often reboot may be neededā¦(and you can shedule reboots at certain days of the week in wd too)
at the bottom of peoples web pages, it reports when the program was started (i.e created atā¦)
i have seen web pages where it has been running for monthsā¦
check under view, program error log too, to see if any errors there
but , yeah, on one system/windows/ etc, it can cause problem, then on another system, it can be as good as gold (sometimes bad memory chips are to blame)
but normaly the pc and wd should be able to run ok for weeks....for the majority it does...
Does for me, I have 2 Davis Vantage Pro stations running W2K and normally they are only down because I choose to take them down. I'm not sure what's the longest time I've let one run without restarting but it's at least 60 days.
I donāt see how anyone can keep it running more than a couple of days - thereās a new version at least that often, and sometimes two or more a day :-)>
I never get to brag about how long my machine has been up, since I have Homeseer with multiple plug-ins, WD, MailWasher, Windows Update, Symantec LiveUpdate, etc. all needing new versions installed and then wanting a reboot to ācomplete the installationā. Actually thatās an exaggeration - WD doesnāt need a reboot, and usually Homeseer plugins donāt, nor MailWasher (well, I guess only Windows Update and Symantec thenā¦).
I guess itās my hangup about staying current with the latest update thatās to blame - since everything is either beta or the latest release, I should count myself lucky that itās as stable as it is.
WD is very stable on my machine.
With Win 2000 pro as the operating system and a updated computer, desktop, two 20 gig drives, one partition per drive (FAT 32), Celeron 900 processor, 512MB RAM the Boltek LD-250 Lightning Detector and Lightning 2000 along with WD are performing well with no adjustments to any of the programs. I do have WD on drive C and Lightning 2000, Norton Internet Security, MemTurbo v3.0, WindowWasher, WS_FTP Pro, and InterWARN on drive D. No email or web surfing on this machine. When I am away from the machine for weeks I do not update programs or OS. No reboots.
my suggestions:
first, check under view, program error log, for any major errors
and then also check the task manager, processors, memory use of weatherd.exe
but also, (this is for others reading this thread), users can get a bit tick happyā¦and things get set up that make wd do more than it needs and or do conflicting things, etcā¦
one easy way to start fresh , but still keep your data, and your old settings, is install to a new directory, then start wd there, with a file there called 2wd.txt
you will know that it worked, becuase it will start up like brand new, no settings, etc
I find it very stable as well. I use it for data processing as I have not made up the mind to use it online right now. I download the data and use it to process it for my research (whatever that is at the moment).
I do find that I have to let it download my archive from the datalogger and not do much else on the computer, then it is fine to go.
I do make the recommendation to save each update as they come out in case you find something that you like or donāt. Also if you use XP, then put in a restore point when you load a new version, incase you need to revert.
But it is very stable. That is why I havenāt written in lately on this board. mostly lurking. things work fine. Still it doesnāt make a decent cup of coffee or have the ultimate answer for world peace, but a very fine software package at an excellent price.
What is the best about it, Brian will do just about anything you want for modifications, tweaks, etc., and is prompt and a very nice guy.
i asked the peron if that was continous 6 months use, and he said yes
hard to believe actualyā¦
those xp set points:
surely just backing up wdās settings files everynow and then, i.e wdisplay.ini and wdisplayftp.ini (in the registry), using wd built in zip back up, would do the trick for reverting back??
i think the xp set point thing is for other software that makes lots of changes to the registry, etc??
i try to be a nice guy all the timeā¦but we all have our moments!
got the inlaws here at the moment (and the wifes sister and her kids the other nightā¦that was 3 families in a 3 bedroom house!
so things were a bit stressfull, lol, but should settle back to ānormalityā
soon
Thanks for Your reactions.
I have tested my RAM modules with memt86 and find some errors. I have replaced the two 128MB modules to one 256MB stick. I think that the problems are gone now.
And Brian, I wish You and Your Family a happy time in your new house.
I run WD on a dedicated 266MHz PC, Windows 98, with only 128MB of memory.
That includes downloads from NOAA and uploads to a webpage every 10 minutes.
I do a restart once a week for peace of mind.
I have run over 8 days but never tried to see how long it would go because I didnāt want to loose data.
I have continuous data for every minute since the end of November
when I first installed WD as a trial.
