Severe Packet Loss via Level3 over the weekend.

I was having some severe packet loss due to problem with Level3 routes over the weekend. Many times with complete 100% loss and no access. This cut off sites like this one, weather-display.com and a number of other over the pond sites from our location.

Not sure who else would have been effected but if you were having problems connecting, that might have been the reason.

I wonder if that is what is affecting Cox Communications… they’re wack again today.

It appears Level3 is still having problems. Looks like they have server problems in the UK. 2004/10/20 23:40 UTC.

Saturday, I had some local issues with Mediacom. But I don’t think it was related. I would guess that it might be something to do with some solar activity. I was told by Mediacom that there was some problems with the positioning of the satellites they used because of the earth tilt and how they received their signals both with the cable for the TV and internet. I had not only things not updating on my screen ( 3 hour delays, which had me defragging, etc., thinking it was my machine) and the modem losing signal.

The modem losing signal was a local thing - we have a lot of construction in town of late and they were moving cable and of course the squirrels wanting to do their thing. But the web pages were the other issue.

Now, I am not certain that was the real reason, but it could have something to do with repositioning how the signals are set up in space.

of course you could always send an email to the ISP and ask what was the problem. Mediacom did this one time before and they were moving things via server and didn’t quite get things moved as planned so there was outages, both email and net, so I was off line most of the day, and that was not a happy moment.
