How do i get my scrolling forecast to display on wdl?
You need to be using a Davis VP. Make sure this line in the config has the number of seconds entered into it that you want the forecast to be on screen for -
10
See page 11 of the Configuring_wdl.pdf for more.
Julian
you’re the man!
can you control the time between flashing of conditions and the forecast?
Yes you can.
The number sets the seconds - 10 = 10 seconds, 12 = 12 seconds, etc.
From page 11 & 12 of pdf file
Can you override the Davis VP forecast with data from a local Metar station or some other source?
I don’t know if you can override the VP forecast since I have a WMII, but I know this works to provide a forecast for those who don’t have a VP. Shouldn’t hurt to try it…
I had tried that, but then no forecast shows…will try changing VP Forecast to “0” in the wdlconfig file and then toggling that feature…can not recall if I had tried that in the past. Thanks.
Note that the forecast text is in the clientrawextra.txt file (right at the end) which only gets updated every 10 minutes or so. You may not have given it time to work?
Julian
Does the 10 variable stay set or does it need to be set back to “0”?
I waited for the full upload cycle of the clientrawextra.txt file. The VP Pro forecast was changed to “—”. Perhaps I am using the wrong file to gleen the forecast from? Perhaps some can take a peek at the file I am trying to use. See the screenshot below. Thanks.
Try /data/forecasts/zones/me/ instead of state. The zone gives the forecast where state give more conditions.
That was the ticket. It is working like a charm now. So select the zone file to use instead of VP forecase. Left Davis forecast variable set to 10 seconds in wdlconfig. Yahoo. Thanks for all your help.
I am using the NOAA zone forecast to override on VP2 forecast in WLD. IS There a way to have a NOAA special forecast/weather advisory/etc override the normal NOAA zone forecast if one is available? I assume the normal forecast will reflect the advisory at some point.
Thanks.
The zone forecast for my neck of the woods was just updated with an extra line of text place in the file above where the forecast starts:
…WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM EST TO 7 PM EST
WEDNESDAY…
So the clientrawextra.txt file now shows “—” where the forecast should be. The current forecast line reads:
.TONIGHT…BECOMING CLOUDY WITH SNOW LIKELY LATE. LITTLE OR NO
SNOW ACCUMULATION. LOWS AROUND 16. NORTHEAST WINDS 5 TO 10 MPH.
CHANCE OF SNOW 60 PERCENT.
Does WD (I assume this is the application which creates the clientrawextra.txt file) look in the NOAA file for the first line which begins with a “.” ? If so, perhaps it should look for the same, but make sure there is not another “.” following the first.
Can anyone clarify how this all works?
Thanks.
I have made numerous changes to the site, including a new isp. If you look at the forecast it cuts off after the word becoming. Any thoughts?
note sure on that one,.
but your web site does not show properly in firefox broswer…
it has a very small WDL in the top left hand conrner, and then some of the WDL html code is visible below that…
what is the url to the web site, past the frame?
I went to http://www.laltshul.com/test
There I saw the scrolling forecast and for me what appears as the entire forecast appeared…
“Forecast: PARTLY CLOUDY. MUCH COLDER WITH THE LOW AROUND 20. NORTHWEST WIND AROUND 10 MPH UNTIL MIDNIGHT…BECOMING LIGHT AND VARIABLE.”
Not sure if this where you meant?
-Bob
That particular forecast, and the one showing now is fine. However previous ones cut off before they were completed.
I think that is because the forecast yesterday with all the wind, ice and fog made the string too long.
