saving a monthly gif

I don’t know if WD already does this, but I think a nice feature would be to create a monthly gif at the end of every month based on monthtodate.gif, a graphical chart of the entire month that people can save and upload to websites etc, so you can see at a glance what the pressure and wind and rainfall was like for a given month. Could be auto created as month42004.gif for April as an example - like is done with the windtempraintrend gif images.

Just a suggestion.

Good idea,

A monthly HTML page gets created and saved but I think a graph is also very useful to have.

yup, good idea
i will do this soon, in time for the new month (and have a drop down selection too maybe?)

Hi Brian,

have been on holiday for 2 weeks so I just thought I would ask if the monthly gif save has been implemented in WD lately?

cheers

you mean as a date stamped file?
yes, that should happen auto now

cheers for that

Hi Brian,
one thing I noticed about the monthtodate gif that is saved daily (e.g 8monthtodate.gif) is that it is always a day behind.

It is now just past midnight on 30th and the 8monthtodate only displays up to the 28th - it should be upto the 29th?

Strangely enough the windows date/time stamp for the file is a day behind as well when it is created 8O - I don’t know how you manage to confuse windows like that lol.

Can this be looked into because it means that the last day of the month does not appear on the graph (although it does appear at the first day on the next months graph!)

cheers

your right
same here
the montodate.gif file is up to date
but the 8monthtodate.gif file is a day behind
that will be because i am copying the file before its created!
fixing now, will be ok for the next version of wd

cheers Brian,

the only thing I am looking for resolving now is the rain rate issue I mentioned where WD suddenly reports a high value then counts down slowly over an hour.

If that is fixed then WD will be perfect for me

i think i might have found the reason for that too
the next version , out soon, might just fix that too

A quick point Brian,

as you are running the latest WD on your Grahams Beach site - it seems the 8monthtodate.gif has been left in a “reset” state (like for the start of September?)

I have not updated my WD version yet to check this but I guess this still needs a tweak to retain all the data for the month of August before the new month gif gets created? probably this means going back to the “day behind” issue that we had before as your Manakau Heads 8monthtodate.gif is fine (with the original day behind problem) as you are still on 10.15 version there?

Is it something to do with the fact the the monthtodate.gif always starts on the last day of the previous month?

Cheers

i actualy stopped my version of WD just before it uploaded the daily extremes files…to test something out with a new verison…
so i have uploaded them manualy via action, update averages/extreme, now

thanks - I will check what happens to monthly gifs at the end of September before I get a newer version of WD running

Sorry to drag this old one up again.

Brian, can I just ask when you have a quiet moment to have a look at the date stamped month to date gif creation again. The creation of the gifs is fine except that they are now 2 days behind current data - this meant that 11monthtodate.gif only goes upto the 28th of November and I guess December will only go upto the 29th. I guess the month changeover routine is fairly tricky and I guess there is absolutely no way to have a full month’s data.

I don’t wish to sound like I am bleating on about it and even though I suggested it as a feature you can turn it off again Brian if it is too much work to sort this out. I am not worried about having this feature any more and stopped putting monthly gifs on my webpages. Do many others on here use these monthly gifs?

I guess I could use the graph history to create a month gif but it isn’t quite the same.

Thanks for trying anyway.

the delay is a result of the way i was trying to do it…
i.e copy today created one (which is yesterdays day), to a “backup” just before its created , which gives the 2 day delay, so that it captures it before the end of the month means it starts new
but then that misses the last 2 days by the looks
so, instead, all i need to do, is on the first day, say at midday or something, load the last months data file in, create it, save it,month stamp it, upload it, then reload the current months data file, all automaticly
i will try that

sounds good Brian - will await the results with interest
