Reloading WD

I know this has been asked a hundred times before but I would like to know if there is a procedure anywhere as to how to correctly do it. I am upgrading to a new hard drive in my computer. I have to reload all the software. i will contact Brian for a new registration code again for WD.
Is there a correct way to get all my data from the old drive to the new drive. i cannot copy the partition of the one drive to the other because of data corruption. What files must be carried over? Thanks any help would glady be apprecitated… Dave…

on the WD sight in the faqs section is pretty much step by step directions including moving the registry settings.

Thanks I thought I looked there and did not see it, but I will look again…maybe it is in the archived ones.

On the Welcome page scroll down to Export Registry Settings Help. It spells it out very well.

However when I try to Import to thhe registry on the new pc I get Cannot import… Errpr accessing the registry. I am logged on as a user with administrative rights. Any ideas?

that sort of error is becauase of a non standar path
go to the ftp setup, then click on OK
then search for the newly created wdsiplayftp.ini file in the registry
then you will need to change the path in the old one to the same as the new one, using say Word…
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER
is the path …i.e the bit before wdisplayftp.ini
you need to change that on eveyr line
