Rain rates

I wonder how the rain rates are calculated.

During rainfalls here they vary all over the map. Not too useful – especially given the real estate they occupy.

For example they may be 18 inches/hour for a sample then drop to less than .1"/hr, etc. They don’t seem to correspond to the eyeball observed rain rates

I guess it illustrates how bad the inference of derivatives can be …

Is there anything planned to smooth these values somehow?

Regards
Brian

it depends on your rain gauge tip and also /hr is an extraporlation of the current rate
i comared wd’s rate with the davis rain rate on its console, and they agreed nicey

Hello all,

I’m trying to set up WD to display the current conditions, specifically raining to coincide with the icon image.
Currently, I have .540 inches per hour rain rate, yet the icon shows overcast. I want to use the conditions that WD is currently experiencing rather than my WM918 conditions as my area in the Pacific Northwest USA can be damp but no rain yet the '918 will show a rain icon.

I’d lke to get it so that if WD is getting a rain rate, it shows rain on the icon. The summary image indicates moderate rain yet the icon on the summary page is showing overcast. I would like to get the icon to correlate with the conditions.

Are there settings I can adjust to make this work?

Thanks

Randy

hi
make sure in the summary image and icon setup, you do not have ticked, use the forecast icon
and you dont have ticked set the icon to the solar in the solar sensor setip (if you have a solar sensor) and more likely, check under input daily weather you do not have ticked, use this image as the main screen image
and or in the summary image and icon setup you do not have it set to update from a downloaded metar, or if you do, then tick for wd rain/wind to override the metar
