Problems Viewing WDL

Hi,

I’m sure this has been covered somewhere here, but when a colleague logs in to my website from work, the shockwave movie doesn’t load, gets as far as configuring and thats it… I can view it fine and dandy from home…what is going on ?? :frowning: :frowning:

Your site works fine for me too. When the configuring message is displayed it means it’s attempting to load the xml configuration file. Does it eventually time out and say ‘error loading configuration’? If so it means it can’t load it at all. Can your friend load the xml file if he types the URL directly into the browser?

Hi Julian,

Thanks for the swift response…

No, there is no error loading message, which was really confusing me, because thats what i was expecting. I will have another check tomorrow, as I have spent the evening, recalling all my files and ftp them again, making sure all are the latest versions.

…and finally, just have to give you a BIG shout :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: for your development of WDL, I am attempting to get into shockwave dev myself and hopefully I will be able to produce something as impressive as WDL…($20 is not enuff !!!)

Thanks!

Since others can view your site no problem it really sounds like a client side difficulty. Worth checking the browser, browser configuration, Flash version installed, OS, firewall settings etc.

My day job is server side web development, back end databases, etc. but it was Brian and Greg’s development of the svg viewer for WD that inspired me to get into Flash.

Macromedia has so many versions, now do you know what to use for what?

I would like to work with something like Microsoft’s Power Point, but with the Macromedia software.

Can you tell me what’s, what?

Thanks
Tb

I inspired someone. WOW! I guess there’s a first time for everything.

I can see your live weather but the frames (?) make it so small it is hard to see. Your page takes a very long time to load (Mozilla 1.5).

I cannot see your live view in IE6. Your page takes a longer time to load (MSIE6).

Pratty,
You page loads fine here on IE6.0 and loads fast. Looks good. The cloud graph needs to be white to see it better though.

Are you referring just to Flash or to other Macromedia software?

Basically Flash just keeps adding more features with each release. 7 is the latest but it’s safest to code for the previous release to get a balance between functionality and installed plug-in. For Flash 6 you need Flash MX or MX2004 for authoring.

Director is another Macromedia software tool but it’s more complex and more geared towards Shockwave output.

Dreamweaver is for web site authoring.

Fireworks is an image editor that works well with vector or bitmaps.

hi
it loaded for me ok too, on my slow connection, but took a while…most likely becuase of all the other items on the page to load…
good system this WDL, being able to do what you like in html!

pratty, it looks like you need to use the latest version of WD, to get the data into the clientraw.txt file to show up in the new temp/rain/wind last hour graphs on the WDL

The IE Flash Killer resulted in my not being able to see pratty’s WD Live frame.
I can see your WDLive frame now that I have disabled the IE Flash Killer on this machine.

I was meaning something to make a presentation somewhat like Microsoft’s Power Point?

Thanks

CaptDilli,
Where do you get this IE flashkiller?

Hi All,

Thanks for all your responses. I’m aware of the problems with viewing some of the text, and this will be rectified.

This was my first version, and the frameset I have used will be changed, to enable a 'full screen view of WDL. I am working on that at the mo.

My colleague at work can now get into the site, and loading time is fine, using IE5, soon to be upgraded IE6.

Once again, thanks for all your advice/comments
