Now using Panasonic BL-C140A

I’m sure it was there last week :dontknow:

It is a new model. Searching on google I found the press release announcing it and the related C-160A. More googling and I did find it on the English version of the Panasonic Japan website.

Why it’s not on the US site? Who knows? Panasonic will probably drop it due to poor sales

I think this thread generated some new sales.

Thanks for the info.

If you want to test the digital zoom, go to:

http://rochesterweather.myserver.org/FrontyardWebcam.html.

My camera is a Panasonic BL-C30A with tilt/pan capabilities. It’s looking through a double-paned, high-E window and a storm window. Since the windows haven’t been washed in a year, quality may not be the best. Clicking anywhere in the image will center the camera on that spot. If you are using IE, and haven’t installed the Active-X control, your IE browser should ask you if you want to download and install the Active-X component (if I’ve got it configured right). If you already have the Active-X component installed, you should be able to zoom in and out using the mouse wheel.

Looks good…couldn’t find the zoom feature…

Thanks Rookie!

Zoom works for me, click somewhere on the image and use the scroll wheel, or in my case the right edge of the touch pad on my laptop. The zoom ratio shows in the top left corner of the image. Whether digital zoom is actually useful is a whole other question…

does this work on Vista 64?

If it is only “blowing up” a bit of the image is it anything other than just what you get just by ‘zooming’ with the Browser itself (e.g. [Ctrl][ + ] in Firefox)?

NorCal Dan - I’ve found the digital zoom problem. I’ve got to put a check into the page to see if the viewer’s browser supports ActiveX controls and if so, use it. It will probably take a day or so to get it in there. In the mean time, go directly to the camera (http://rochesterweather.myserver.org:3716/CgiStart?page=Single&Language=0 and click on “Single”. Hopefully a warning toolbar should open up asking if you want to install the ActiveX control. Once it installs, it never asks again.

Aardvark - I don’t know if it works for Vista 64. If your using Vista 64, go to the above listed URL and see.

I think that the ActiveX control that Panasonic uses is pretty much the same one used by all of the manufacturers.

No work. Either the Mac doesn’t use activx or my mouse is not sending the correct signals to activate the zoom. Unless you have a bunch of Mac visitors it probably isn’t worth spending alot of time on it…I can center and pan the image ok.

i will give that a look… now is this the wireless version…

I am thinking that the price is about right ( of course the wife drove over a curb last night, tore her tire to shreds then drove 1 mile home on the rim… so this will be a back burner purchase the camera…).

I am thinking that if I got an IP camera or a wireless version, then I could work around this until vista 64 is fixed or something new floats by.

The BL-C140A which is the original subject of this thread is wired, it is powered via the cat5/ethernet cable so there is one wire to run to it. There are panasonic wireless ones but they are more expensive (and still need the power wire).

then perhaps what I want is the cat ethernet you are talking about… so I install the camera, run an ethernet cable to my router and go from there?

There has to be software that access the image out there that is compatible to both…

I like the clear image and color … and the autofocus … that would be ideal…

Here’s how the cabling works:

that looks like it would work… I probably would use it inside for a while. then run the cable when I can, next spring, outside.

I think I am going to bite the bullet, get her the tires and me the camera… I appreciate it.

So what are you planning for the Christmas basket?

Sunny turkey day here, and yes, I DO need a new driveway for christmas

trees with leaves… so, so jealous…

oh it is 41 here, can’t complain, no snow…

Turkey in oven about 6pm is dinner .

well for me, the camera… and that should do it for me for a while… Oh… have to figure out what to get the daughter and granddaughter and wife… heck the misses is older on Dec 7.
she was watching Cleopatra on TV. I asked when was it filmed, she replied 1963. I remarked I was a junior in high school… she reminded me she was in 2nd grade. She deserves being older for that reminder. #-o
