Trying to get WD up and running under MacOS, and don’t see any data displayed in the main window. I do see values in the 42025lg.txt log file, But the Data Received box at the bottom of the display window is not blinking. The Data Quality box is steady green.
I know nothing about MAC but I presume WD has the same Setup Wizard. Top left Menu under Setup. Have you tried that? And what weather station are you using?
Chris
Ran through the Setup Wizard right from the start, and repeated many times with the same result.
It’s a Davis Vantage Pro2 Plus 6162 with a Davis WeatherLink 6510 Software Data Logger WINDOWS 6510SER and a serial to USB converter running the Prolific driver. I have it all working using Dean Davis’ WeatherTracker software, but WT is no longer supported so I’m looking to migrate to something maintainable.
It’s a long time since I ran a VP2 on a serial connection, but I don’t think you need the WeatherLink software running. WD can read from ths console directly. I also think that WeatherLink sets the console into a ‘special’ WeatherLink mode that WD can’t use. There’s a way to reset the console back to the mode that WD can use. If you can’t find the method using Search and no-one else can provide a link I’ll look later (got other stuff I need to do right now).
Thanks for the replys. As far as I know, I’ve never installed the WeatherLink software. WeatherTracker directly accesses the serial to USB converter using the Prolific driver.
In WD, I see two serial drivers in the interface connection configuration window, but neigher of them are working. I have been searching through the WD docs pdf file, but haven’t found anything helpful.
You mentioned this which I assumed was WeatherLink software running on your computer, but I may have that wrong. Just confirm my understanding you have…
VP2 console with a serial connection
A Davis USB to serial port logger plugged into the serial port on the console and into a USB port on your computer
The USB-Serial port converter driver running on your computer.
If so, then it’s possible that the logger is in USBExpress mode which WD can’t read. Try looking for posts about USBExpress mode, e.g. Problem with Davis VP2 [RESOLVED -> was set to USBexpress mode]. There should be more than one that explains how to reset the mode. It’s worth doing just to be sure that’s not the problem.
I’ve found the problem. It seems that the old WeatherTracker application wasn’t releasing the USB port when it quit, which prevented WD from grabbing data from the Davis console. I shut down the laptop, booted it, and made sure Weather Tracker wasn’t running before launching WD. At that point WD started showing weather data in the main window, and also feeding weather data to Weather Underground.
So you were right in suspecting the data feed from the Davis Console, and my gut feel was that was also the problem.
Sometimes it’s the simple things that trip you up…
