No Upgrade for Vantage Pro to Vantage Pro 2

Got the following from support today.

Currently my box is running at about 75% all of a sudden… Will be moving things around since my vacation starts TOMORROW!

There is no upgrade available for the Vantage Pro. We generally consider reception rates above 70% to be very good. The most common cause of reception problems is RFI (Radio Frequency Interference). Try to keep your console away from other wireless devices, such as cordless phones, and RF remote controls.

Too bad on that…

70% is not very good at all me thinks
Bluewave in the UK said they have a kit to upgrade a VP to a VP2 (its not released yet)
but they dont have a US version

Funny… My reception seems to have “improved” on its own. It went from around 72-75% back up to 95%. Only change was WD which went from 10.20H to 10.20O but I don’t see how that would make a difference.

Perhaps my Vacation scared it.

Yep.

if bluewave in the UK can do a retrokit for the VP to a VP2, then you would think davis could too…

it seems it is more like 995 clams or higher. Now if they were real “men” and not the general “girlie men” they would come to this very spot and offer us equipment to test it to the hilt.

I think I am going to sit back and see what happens.

Gentlemen, thank you for this very enlightening discourse!

I was just getting ready to treat myself to a VP2 station, after reading a lot of the postings on this site, most seamingly in favour of the VP. I too will sit back for a while longer as I have done enough beta testing in another field,

thanks again all…

ps eBay prices have been running about 475 - 500 $ US over the last 2 weeks.

I think waiting is the best. I am having issues as you can tell. It is colder than polar bear snot in the yukon ( assuming the bear made a wrong turn at the corner).

I have done just about all I think I can to solve this . Even discharged some sensors ( although the soil is holding on to the charge because it is so cold or it is just plain evil).

I haven’t heard much on this or other boards about how things are going with them, so rather than run out and buy a new unit and then have to deal with all sorts of firmware updates, kits, etc… I am going to wait until at least next spring or summer before I make the leap. I know what is wrong with this unit, but I don’t know what I am jumping into with the VP2.

What I do know about the unit I have, something is interfering with the console getting the signal. I did put in a new transmitter board, but so far not much different.

oops made a slight error there, sorry.

the price should read 475 - 500 $ Cdn, not US $, which is about 50% of the list price for Canada.
