Nightly Wind spike, but weather calm

Thanks!

Ken

OK, thanks, Brian. 10.32x now working. I see the max wind setting is only in knots, not in the set units, but I do knot think that’s an issue.

I’m sorry, Brian, but I tried 10-32x and it still simply ceilings to the set max and does not assume the previous good value. This means that when it glitches it records a false maximum which is totally outside the realistic range. I attach this morning’s sample, as it was captured and modified as I expected to see. The plateau of the value, where the glitches were, does not bother me, because it remains within a realistic range. To be perfectionist, one could calculate the linear slope of, say, the previous 5 values and extrapolate this forward until the read value was normal again, but I don’t believe that this is necessary; I’d be happy with just a plateau. Is this possible, please?

But what happens if you really got a 40 mph gust then WD would assume it was false and not report it…

I am not sure any software would be able to properly compensate for any station that spikes that radically… without risking falsely reporting lower values then actually experienced.

No Spikes in the last 48 hours!

New Cable will be run this very day!

WS2310. WD 10.32S, on a Gateway 1.6G, 128mb, 20gb drive
(to be replaced by a lower power consuming cheap laptop)

devil, problem is, you are trying to make WD do all sort of software jumps though loops for what is a hardware problem which can be fixed by rewiring the station which many people have satisfactorily done

i could just set the speed to the 1 minute average if the spike has been detected

Brian

I agree that it is some form of hardware problem, but I haven’t been able to source the right cable on this technically benighted island and I can’t find it with any companies I have had dealings with on the mainland, either. The nearest I’ve found is a six-pair TP unscreened (unshielded) cable which is far too fat for RJ-11 plugs, anyway.

The strange thing seems to be that all the references to spikes on WS-23nn, that I have seen, have referred to the wind. Mine are mainly on RH, occasionally on temp, but wind and rain have behaved themselves perfectly.

The previous 1 minute average would be ideal, if this could be done.

the spikes do affect the other sensors, giving -17oC temperature, etc
try a new 10.32x zip download for the settting to the previous average for the windspeed…
but did you want that also for temperature?

Yes, please, temperature and, above all, humidity which, for me, is the most unstable variable. I’ve no problem with wind. Have been on 10.32x since 23.2. Thanks, Brian.

okay, phooey… in fact PHOOEY.

Within an hour of reconnecting the new shielded cable( which is grounded properly), the wind speed spikes are back! The only connector remaining to be cleaned is the rj11 one in the WS2310… and I’ll try that tomorrow…

Since it ran so well using wireless, I might just leave it as a wireless setup, tho’ the update frequency is much less than a wired connection, but at least it’s accurate enough for horseshoes, hand grenades and weather forecasting.

Even though this thread is from a few months ago, I’ll add my 2 cents (USD) to the mix.
Just for grins, I just hard wired my temp/hygro sensor to the base station (WS2317) with the supplied phone cable. It improved the directional reporting, but, magically, I started getting the 57 mph gusts. 57 seems to be a favored number with LaCrosse WSxx.
Anyway, I looked, and the RJ11 connector is showing corrosion and, as we all know, is not twisted and/or shielded. So, in my planned project for this weekend, besides re-wiring everything else with Cat5 shielded or unshielded [whichever I can find] I guess I’ll be making up another cable for the direct wire.
Whoops, just got another 57mph gust! Makes me wonder if I should go outside today.
