Newbie Question(s)

I am very new to the weather hobby, but I find it very interesting. I purchased with a gift certificate a La Crosse WS2010. I just got it running this weekend and so far so good. I have been reading this forum for tips and the like but I do have a few questions.

  1. I purchased WD and WD live and have them both working fine at my site. My question is which file would I edit to change the way the page is displayed. I know I can edit the information that is one the page, but I want to change the look and feel. I noticed a few files (datahtm0, datahtm1, datahtm2 and the like), but if you edit them they get written over everytime the software updates the website. Is there a template? I read the manual but I did not see this information.

  2. I would like to add some sat images to my site, where would I get these. I also downloaded the auto-sat program but I am not sure how to use it correctly. Does the NOAA site allow you to download and use sat files?

  3. Off topic a bit but - What do you guys recommend for placing your weather sensors. Since mine are wireless, they need to face south. Would roof top be the preferred location? Currently my wind and temp sensors have been attached to my fence since it faces south and it is not blocked by anything, but this is not an ideal location since any wind coming from the north would be partially blocked by the fence. What type of hardware (mast/pole etc.) would you recommend? The rain sensor is currently sitting on my deck so I need to find a perm location for this also. I would think it needs some type of base or pedestal and I guess I could make one, but was hoping someone could give me some suggestions.

Thanks in advance for helping me out.

Regards,

Kevin

you can edit datahtm0.txt and datahtm3.txt
but to edit datahtm2.txt, you need to tick, let me manage the datahtm2.txt file ,in the webfiles/web page setup…
also, though , you can create a custom web page too …by having a file called wxlocal.html, with the csutom tags in it,…and then wd produces a file called wx.html with the tags replaced, and uploads that (and you can change the remote name of that file)
up to 40 cusotm web pages can be created that way (i.e wxlocal2.html, etc)
there is a couple of example custom web pages included with the download…

you could add the html code to show an embdded image, that is sourced from another site
see the html code in the datahtm files that is there already to show an image for how.,…

I also downloaded the auto-sat program but I am not sure how to use it correctly.
its a specialised program…you wont really need to use that…you can even get wd to download images …see the http download in the ftp/internet setup
Does the NOAA site allow you to download and use sat files?
i think just a embded image link will do the trick

Yicks Kevin. You want to remove my stat counter from that HTML? You’re making my stats all wacky.

Wow, did he just take your whole site???

No big deal… HTML is free to a good home…

But that stat counter… uh, that’s kinda unique.

thats very nice of you carter lake 8)
but there is this at the bottom of the web site:
CarterLake.org is not affiliated with the city of Carter Lake, Iowa.
that needs to be fixed

Sorry Cater Lake - I have been playing around with your HTML so I can get an idea of how things work, I will not use any of your code for the real deal. I also did not realize you had the stat counter in there - i took it out. I will say I learned a lot and I aplogize if I over stepped my bounds and again will not use any of your site for mine.
