I have installed a new leaf wetness/soil temp sensor, but there are no data shown in wd.
I ticked in weaterhstation settings/units “I have a leaf wetness” and also “I have a soil temp sonsor”.
The outout of the tag %soiltemp% is 255

is really nobody using a leaf wetness/soil temp sensor???

I have the same setup. You do see it on your vp console? you will either have on the console or not If you don’t see it on the console, then check that the second transmitter shows as station 2.
Then just click the unit settings in Wdisplay as you have . You might want to pour some water on the leaf wetness sensor to get it to respond. I believe you will either get a 12 for wet and zero for dry. the unit takes a bit to respond.
You also might want to check it against weather link as well. But it should work.
One last thought. check the connections. the leaf wetness has a plug in and the temp two bare wires? Check that its making contact
hi,
yes I can see both on the console - the wetness and the soil temp.
But I can only see the wetness at the extra sensor page of WD (where also the % reception of the VP is shown), at the place for the soil temperature there is a – shown.
how much time needs the leaf wetness, when it starts raining for reacting? Did you oberserve that yet?
Roman
I have the console by my computer http://home.mchsi.com/~dsmweather/stationinfo.htm so i can observe it right away. There is a time lag between the first rain hitting the leaf wetness sensor, I would say within a minute or so.
I went back into the software again and all I see as settings is in the original station settings the place where you tick what options you have.
Now I also assume the rest of the information from the console to WD work. All I can think of is install the latest version. I would use the beta version initially . Somewhere in the back of my mind that was the version for the VP units, but Brian has latched on to a VP and It might work as well. Also try a reboot of the computer incase that might shake someting loose.
Mine works. The only thing Ihave is that the autoscale graphs are goofy with regard to the soil moisture/.wetness/temp graphs, so I don’t use them.
RATS. Hang in there. Write Brian, maybe something is in you rwdisplay ini. file and he can check that for you as well. Email him directly.
hi,
thank you for your useful information.
I wrote Brain yet. Hope he will find the problem.

Brian always solves my problems for me. I am presently trying to figure out a gradebook program and hence, the speedy response.
Well , the weather alert radio shows I am in a tornado watch area. Nothing to worry about, but I figured that this must be real sick hobby, waiting for rain and storms just to watch the data roll in.
I did notice with the soil moisture and temp values, that Ihave not needed to water the garden compared to last year when the values were very dry. I have two probes, one at 4 inches and the other at 15 inches. Its interesting to see how the ground freezes. I also have one temperature probe sitting on the soil surface for that temperature as well. Then I can use it for snow temperature when that season rolls in.
I would be interested in what Brian finds out for you regarding why the softwre isn’t cooperating with your sensor. Please let me know.
if the soil custom tag reports 255, then that means the soil data is not getting to the data logger and the PC (even though it is showing on the console)
go to setup, extra/misc, then tick, log raw data for testing
then email me the file rawultimeterdata.txt from where you have wd installed and then i can check if the raw data actualy has your soil temperature data in it (looks like it might not)
hi Brian,
I sent you the file!
Please have a look un dlet me know, how the problem could be resolved…
thanks a lot!
Cheers

it was only a wrong setting on the console (stations was definated as leaf stations instead as leaf/soil)
Roman
that happens.
