I think the backup would be independent of the raid, cause that’s just copying the files to a regular format disk, so if that disk is big enough then you should be in business.
Yes you could do that. Set WD to place the autobackup zip file on the second 60Gb disk. Don’t forget to backup the WD folder as well, this will get all the logs etc. I have a batch file on my server the runs WinRAR and compreses a few folders including the WD directory, IIS logs, www root etc to a file on the spare disk. What about your other files like my documents etc, favourites, emails, don’t forget these.
Well I got the hard drives in my computer and I am cleaning the 60gb hard drive. It had a lot of old stuff I don’t even use anymore. Once I get that done I am going to do a complete back up of my current drive to the 60gb drive. I have to head off to work in about 90 minutes. Hopefully I can get the one drive cleaned before I head off to work. I will be going with raid 0 striped once I have everything in order.
Don’t forget to install the RAID controller drivers before installing Windows. At the very first screen during the windows setup you will see an option “press F6 to install SCSI drivers” or something like that. Press F6 and have your driver disk for the RAID controller handy. Then press “S” to specify controller using drivers from the disk…its all written on the screen.
Yes I am aware of that since I have a raptor as my main drive right now. I am still in the process of copying files to my backup drive. I’m doing a little bit at a time. I want to make sure I do things right. I have to get going more copying to do. Thanks for the reminder.
I have got the basic stuff done. I got it up and running. I got all windows updates c/w, installed ant-virus, display drivers. When I get home tonight from work I will continue to work on installing the rest of software including WD. Hopefully I will have things done by 300 am CST.
Thanks for all the help!
Well I have things up and running. I had a couple of little things but no big deal. WD is going good so far with minor problems but they are associated with updates and Brian has fixed those. I think it is running better since upgraded my hard drives.
