New ajaxWDwx.js (V2.09) and WD/PHP/AJAX demo package available

Here is a screen shot Chris. Then what it does is parse the testtags.txt into testtags.php onto your web site. Hope this helps! There is a windrose page here too…Windrose Graphics

Jack

hello jack,

OK I got the testtags.php uploading now…thanks to your screenshot, which informed me that the upload time needs to be entered only, and that it is in the section for special custom file uploads, and not in the file create/upload where the main pages are created/uploaded times. That is what was throwing me off, but after seeing the screenshot I figured it out and found the correct place.

is every 15 minutes of an uploading time for the testtags.txt.>testtags.php sufficient enough?

as of right now…all my test pages for the gizmo, dashboard and sidebar are currently working. they also have a working windrose and thermometer.

BUT all the other 3 files that were also in the ajax 1.06 folder…without the “TEST” in the php’s are not uploading/updating, and are stuck at the 6;46pm time frame.

you mentioned / asked if those, that are not updating, had the “” in them…and they DO NOT have the code in them.

is that code needed and where exactly does it go?

Thanks…Chris

Hello …

“by George…I think Of Got it”… all figured out…Thanks again Ken and Jack.

I had to add the code ()… to my own test pages, and now that the testags.txt>testtags.php is uploading…everything is working like a charm. I guess that does it for tonight’s learning adventure for me…LOL.

All six pages are now working here:

http://www.gateway2capecod.com/ajax-dashboard.php

http://www.gateway2capecod.com/ajax-dashboard-testpage.php

http://www.gateway2capecod.com/ajax-gizmo.php

http://www.gateway2capecod.com/ajax-gizmo-testpage.php

http://www.gateway2capecod.com/ajax-sidebar.php

http://www.gateway2capecod.com/ajax-sidebar-testpage.php

Stand alone Thermometer.php page:

http://www.gateway2capecod.com/thermometer.php

Thanks again…Chris

Hey Chris looks good. BTW testtags.php needs to be included in that page too, that is how the tags get their information (without the ajax). This is why your clock is working now, because your testags are! 15 minutes has never been an issue for me but I’m sure it won’t hurt to upload faster. You’ll be busy tomorrow playing with all this stuff!

Jack

Hi Jack…

I forgot to mention your site…is Looking Really Sharp!! your hard work/ long hours is paying off. I am glad you have kept the firefighting theme/color’s etc to your pages. I hope, since you are a fire fighter, you find a spot on your home page for your smokey the bear fire level danger graphic, although it is middle of winter now and not a big factor, but hopefully you find a place for him when this season ends. been pretty frigid here also, but the January Thaw is coming this week…Thank god! I am tired of hearing my Furnace come on so much lately and inhaling all that $3.10 a gallon oil get burnt away.

well I guess before I started fiddling to much with my layout and pages, I should convert them all to PHP, which I have been putting off for quite some time now. as much as the php is a bit harder to learn than HTML…I Believe in the long run it is best way to go.

after looking at your’s and many others that are now using the dashboard and sidebar…one thing I think that needs to be removed is the BIG TEMP in upper right corner of the basic wx/ajax pages. I say this because no matter who’s page I see it on that has converted to the new look (dashboard/sidebar)…it just doesnt seem to fit in anymore, and since at the top of dashboard and side bar is a temperature displaying, I dont see much of a use for the original big temp in upper right of header. this is just my opinion but I am sure some may disagree but some others may also agree with me.

Well thanks again and have a good evening…Chris

Thanks Chris I agree with you re: the BigTemp. I’m actually very interested in the newer “middle page” line ups or left sided renderings. I like MCHALLIS’s site (http://www.carmosaic.com/weather/index.php) however changing css pages is beyond me. 8O With so many differnet types of computers, browsers, and OP’s I think it is important to have all pages rendering properly on everybodies machine. I know Ken and Kevin are working on something new, in the meantime I learn something every day. Thanks for your help with my site too, constructive criticism goes a long way in making better sites.

Regrds,

Jack

well I decided to try one last thing, but it is not updating. I made a test page of my own…with my header/sidebar titles & footer, and in the main copy of the page added what I thought was correct:

<?php include("testtags.php"); ?> <?php include("ajax-dashboard.php"); ?>
</div>

<!-- ##### Footer ##### -->

But the page does Not update…so what have I done wrong? the pages is here:

http://www.gateway2capecod.com/test50.php

stumped…Chris

Try getting rid of the ajax gizmo in your header. Ajax can only update once for each page unless you change the ajax script.

Jack

Hello Jack…

I do believe you have found my problem. (bye bye Gizmo)

it is working now…see it here:

http://www.gateway2capecod.com/test50.php

Thanks a million!!!..Chris

Hi Guys,

I have been playing with the dashboard and cannot get the colored highlighting/borders to work. Can someone tell me what I have overlooked?

http://www.dominion-llc.com/weather/index11.php

Rick

Hi Rick,
You should add this to your weather-screen.css file

/* ##### ajaxSidebar ##### */
.ajaxSidebar {
    background-color:#FFFFFF;
	border: none;
}
.ajaxSidebar h2 {
	font-size: 12pt;
	color: #FFFFFF;
	background-color: #669933;
	text-align: center;
	margin-right: 6px;
}

.ajaxSidebar .meas {
	font : x-small Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
	color : #000000;
	text-align : right;
	background-color: #FFFFFF;
	width: 35%;
	}
.ajaxSidebar .data {
	font : 9pt Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
	color : #0000FF;
	text-align : left;
	background-color: #FFFFFF;
	}
.ajaxSidebar td {
	 border: none;
	 background-color: #FFFFFF;
}
.ajaxDashboard .datahead {
	font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
	font-size: 9pt;
	font-weight: bold;
	color:  #FFFFFF;
	background-color: #669933;
	text-align: center;
}
.ajaxDashboard .data1 {
 	 color: #000000;
	 font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
	 font-size: 9pt;
	 border-bottom: 1px solid #CCCCCC;
	 background-color: #FFFFFF;
	 text-align: left;
}
.ajaxDashboard td {
	 border: none;
	 background-color: #FFFFFF;
}

and that should give you the styling CSS you need for either the ajax-dashboard or the ajax-sidebar,

Best regards,
Ken

Chris and Jack, sorry I’ve missed most of your questions/answers on this thread today… I’m glad you got it sorted out!

I’m still fairly head’s-down working on the upcoming carterlake/AJAX/PHP template set. Today’s challenge is to make Tom’s Wunderground Radar script fairly configurable for all the USA (by just changing some settings values). I’ve also included a bit of javascript to allow folks to click on the map where they’d like the red bullet and name of city to appear, and it generates the PHP setting for you to copy and paste into the source (enabled by ?show=loc on the URL).

Best regards,
Ken

Hello Ken,

Thanks for the reply, and I know you are a busy Man. Jack helped me get the basics going and everything is going good so far. I am not sure how I will change the layout on my pages, but it is always an addiction trying and reconfiguring things. Your scripts make it even more addicting, and quite a learning adventure.

another thanks for the weather-screen.css code you just posted for color changes to the dashboard and sidebar. makes things a bit easier.

I was looking at some of the example sites on your website of others that have already put in use the dashboard and sidebar on their site’s, and Must say…simply Amazing!! the sites I am refferring to are at the bottom of this page on Ken’s site, if anyone else would like to view them:

http://saratoga-weather.org/scripts-WD-AJAX-PHP.php#WDajaxPHP

…Chris

Oooh… I think I have that coding addiction too :lol:

It’s the learning and sharing that makes this hobby so much fun.

Thanks for citing the URL for the list of folks using the WD/AJAX/PHP dashboard/sidebar scripts on their site … If folks would like their site listed, just drop me a line (PM or email).

Best regards,
Ken

I have also been successful at getting the dashboard to work correctly. Thanks to the help here I was able to finally get the testtags to upload correctly and everything else fell into place. I’m just running it on a testpage now. Not sure if I want to implement yet or wait for the new templates to come out that Ken is working on. The testpage is here: http://www.bigbaywx.com/wx16.php The only problem I can see is the Ajax date/time in the right header is on the blink now for some reason.

Is there a working thermometer .php that has a little more scale to it?? Quite often in the winter the mercury gets down to zero or colder. Would like to come up with a different graphic for that one. I see that the forecast on the dashboard wants to incorporate a Davis VP forecast as well. I’ll have to take a look at the script and see if there is a way to get rid of that. Don’t have a Davis yet…someday.

Also…

Right now I’m still running wx7, wx6 and wx5 as html and loading to the server every so often. Everything else is php. If I convert these to php will the testtags inclusion update everything on those pages so I don’t have to upload them anymore?? I realize I would still have to upload the graphs and updated astronomy stuff but wondering about the daily stats and stuff.

Thanks,
Doug

Doug,

Within the thermometer code you can change the scale to your needs, look for this within the code

$TmaxF = 80;     // maximum

Hello all,

I have noticed a few things on my dashboard, and also on bigbaywx’s dashboard…The Moon phase on mine say’s 6%, but it should be reading 3% (for today/sunday), as that its what it says on my astronmy page and also on Kens and jack’s dashboard page. …on bigbaywx site…his moon % is also wrong, and is reading 7%.

the next thing I noticed on my dashboard and bigbaywx’s… is the “Temerature high for today time” say’s on mine “2:52 pm”…this is not correct, as of this writing it is only 11:22pm here, and on my original home page it say’s the correct temperature high time of 11:xx am currently at time of writing this.

I am unsure why this is happening but was hoping someone has figured this out already and can provide the fix.

thanks jwwd for the gizmo/ajax at same time tip.

thanks also jack for the thermometer adjusting tip.

…chris

Thanks for all the help folks. Lot’s of stuff you can do, that I’m learning for sure!!

(special message to bigbaywx…on your test page you have the word GUAGES, but it should be spelt GAUGES)
