My Mozilla and Weather Display Live No Refresh

My Observations of Macromedia Flash Player Version: 7,0,19,0 and wdlv3_04.swf, with Weather Display v.10.20m

From my web page:
http://littleswitzerlandweather.info/live/index.html
MSIE v.6.0.28 updates (refreshes) the page properly.
With Mozilla Firefox v.1.0 and Mozilla 1.7.3 when viewing Weather Display Live on my web page the CPU use is 100%.
Mozilla Firefox v.1.0 and Mozilla 1.7.3 do not update (refresh) the page properly.
With Mozilla Firefox v.1.0 and Mozilla 1.7.3 I must move the cursor or click on the page for the page to update (refresh). The yellow dot flashes but the red dot never shows. It is almost like Mozilla is frozen until I move the cursor.
Refresh is set: 7
The Rain Rate is slow to appear when opening the page unless I move the cursor.

Looks the same on two different W2K machines.

Using wdlv3_04.exe Weather Display Live updates (refreshes) the page properly and CPU use is normal and the RainRateHour appears properly when the page opens.

I must have something configured improperly.

Any help will be appreciated.

i know Dan noticed the mouse move thing too (the time/date alternatates, etc, but it or nothing updates until you move the mouse…
that has been ossuring with mozilla or FF in other versions too
to reduce the cpu in FF and probably mozzila
remove this part (in red)

I’ve just been looking at your site in FF, CaptDilli, and I can reassure you your site works fine for me. It updates and the dials move without me having to move the mouse. The rain rate is a little slow to appear but is that really a problem? Given that it’s the same code but just running in a slightly different plugin for a different browser, and that WDL works fine in IE, I can only assume it’s Macromedia/Browser compatibility problems.

Regarding cpu usage, the Flash plugin for FF and Mozilla always seems to use about 20% more than the plugin for IE. It is also dependent upon the size of the browser window you’re viewing it with and the spec of your PC/graphics cards. However Flash is a different beast to code than a traditional windows program and I am also concerned that as more features are added the the cpu usage will inevitably go up. Therefore I’ve been thinking about rewriting certain parts, such as the lightning views, so that they take the full screen rather than just a separate window. That way I can stop the main WDL updates taking place in the background and make the lightning screen more responsive. It would also mean you could use a bigger map. I could also do this for the graphs and records if people thought it was sensible.

that all sounds good!
once you get the select hour drop for the lightning, that will be really cool to julian ( one you get it working, then I will get it uploading to the web site)

the mouse move thing actualy happens to me in FF
try clicking on his link in FF and then dont move the mouse at all (i.e use right mouse click , open in new winoow)
but its just a FF quirk, and people will be moving their mouse anyway, so it dont see it as an issue, and its really beyond your control julian too me thinks!

Yes I did that, and even left the PC for a while and came back to it, and the dials were moving fine. Does the date and time change, and the forecast text/current conditions alternate?

Perhaps it’s somehow related to cpu usage…

Julian

the led blinks, the date/time alternate, etc
but the time does not change, and the dials so not update, until the mouse is moved…
yeah, might be a cpu focus thing, i.e a good video card and it might be ok

I see the same here for FF1.0. That’s on a reasonably decent CPU (2.26GHz) with 512MB RAM and a decent graphics card. I do run a background task which soaks up all the idle CPU time, but I’ve never seen that affect the performance of anything else.

Single tab is best for duping. I have found that with multiple tabs open it occasionally works.

No, time is frozen. Text is ok and alternates.

That did the trick. It works now if that is the only window (no tabs). Reduces the CPU use to 75%-80%.
I am sure it is a Mozilla & Firefox issue.

Thanks All.
