Moose Count

In an effort to report ALL sorts of geo-data for Fairbanks, I hereby give notice that WD can be used for the reporting of the percentage of moose in my yard! Check it out: http://apsn.awcable.com/weatherstation.htm in the current conditions section.

Now, if Brian happens to find time to integrate RFID tags into WD, I can and will report the number of cold beers in my fridge as well.

Isn’t it a bit inconvenient having to climb your weather tower each time you want some milk?

Yes, and very dangerous as well! LOL!

Excellent addition to the wealth of information you post. (How do you measure the temperature of Old Faithful? or is that just another name for your boiler?)

I am curious how you determine the percentage of Moose (Mooses or Mieces?) If there is one Moose in your “yard”, isn’t that 100% Moose? If that Moose is, say having a really bad day, is he only 75% Moose? :-k

I bring this up because I want to have my web cam pointing at the bird feeder this winter and want to know how to compute the percentage of squirrels on the birdfeeder.

(Great web site. Sure is cold up there already!!))

rpreuss, you guessed it right, Old Faithful is my boiler.

The percentage of moose is determined using the Alaska Standard of Weights and Measures, first approved in 1947, which strongly insinuates that no moose present equals 0% while one moose present equals 100%, 2 moose equals 200%, and so on. However, there is a weighting factor by which the amount of moose in one’s freezer offsets that number of ambulatory moose present within the counting area thereby leading to values such as 133% moose (1 in the yard, a third in the freezer). Due to my inability to forage for game this fall, and thereby not having a weighting factor in the freezer, as well as currently having no ambulatory moose present nearby, I can only report 0% moosiness.

Cold, waddya mean? It got up to 29F today! T-shirt weather, that.

Alas, since you have no moosies in the freezer, how about rigging up a net to drop down on any that might be in the area. Of course if you are looking for Moose and Squirrel, Boris Badenov (http://bullwinkle.toonzone.net/characters.htm) might help you get Moose and Squirrel.

Yep, looks like you are about Speedo weather too, First one in the lake breaks the ice !
