Does anyone know how the classification of member come about eg. Newbie, forecaster, etc?
:?
it is decided by the number of posts to the forum you have made - values and names have been set by the moderator(s). I guess one of them will be along soon to tell us what the names and associated value are.
I know that I changed to Senior Forecaster when I reached 200 posts.
Martyn is correct. It’s based on the number of posts you have made. Each ‘post based group’ also has a number of coloured stars associated with it.
oldun - you’ll become a Forecaster at 100 posts. The changes become farther apart the more posts you get…I couldn’t think of enough categories to give new names every 5 or 10 posts!
I could post the limits…but I’m feeling lazy today and anyway it’s nice to keep a little mystery and surprise around. This way you’ll never be sure when you’re going to be called something different!
:-k
Thanks, you can call me anything as long as it is not prefixed by “The Late” I was a little surprised that quality of posts did not play some part in class elevation!

I can do a quality of posts thing. The forum has a ‘karma’ option which allows other people to give or take ‘karma’ from you. Do a good post…get karma. Wind people up…lose karma. The board includes your current karma rating against each post.
I’ve left the option turned off, but if people want to try it, it’s easy enough to turn on!

OK stop being lazy and list all the different group… I have been curious about that for some time now myself…
Turn it on…Turn it on!!
I’ve overcome my laziness and decided to release the details. Stress is a significant negative factor in modern day living and I’m hoping that by releasing this info, stress levels among forum participants will reduce significantly and you can all live longer happier lives ](*,)
The member classes are shown below…name first then number of posts to achieve this level. Now that you know the details, I’m expecting most of you to be Senior Weather Controller by the end of next week. Also publishing the list has made me realise that I need a new class or three for windy
Newbie - 1
Junior Watcher - 5
Watcher - 10
Senior Watcher - 25
Junior Forecaster - 50
Forecaster - 100
Senior Forecaster - 200
Weather Guru - 500
Rain Maker - 1000
Junior Weather Controller - 2000
Weather Controller - 4000
Senior Weather Controller - 8000
An important post to help get me off Newbie - phew 998 to go
OK…we’ll have a trial run with it.
Da Roolz:
- Each user has a ‘climate’ value. Positive is ‘sunny’. Negative is ‘cloudy’. Magnitude of positive or negative shows how sunny or cloudy the person is.
- You’ll see link [sunny] and [cloudy] for a user against each post. If you think the post was good/useful, click on [sunny]. If you think the post wasn’t good, was annoying/irritating or wasn’t really helpful, click on [cloudy].
- There is a timed limit to the number of times you can update the climate setting. This is once per hour, but I’m not sure if that’s one climate update for you each hour or if each person can only update the climate setting for a given user once per hour. I’m sure this is something we’ll find out during the trial.
- You can only update climate settings once you have made at least 5 posts on the forum.
- The settings above are liable to change at any time and the whole climate (Karma) system is only on trial, so it too can be withdrawn at a moments notice.
- The Administrators decisions cannot be overruled!
- It’s only for fun. Don’t go off in a huff if you end up with -3000 points. Equally, don’t apply for the post of UN Ambassador if you get +50,000 points.
Hello all, now hasn’t it been an interesting and informative day, thanks to all
Ah, so that’s what those buttons are for. I suggest you add some sort of explanation (tool tips?), or you will get ignoramuses like me clicking on them to see what they do. (Luckily I clicked on “sunny”, so I haven’t inadvertently insulted anyone.)
I’ve just made a suggestion to the developers that tooltips for this might be useful.
Wow I got to do some posting to get up to Guru…
POST POST POST POST…
Guru? You’ve got to get to Forecaster first. Don’t try to run before you can walk
We’re over 1,000 again
We’ll stay that way unless I get really ruthless in killing off accounts that haven’t been used. There are still quite few accounts that have never been used, so I’ll keep potting them off one by one and maybe even kill off a few accounts that have been used, but not for a long time. All this admin detracts from other projects though, so it will only be a background activity. We seem to be getting a lot of new members joining and the ‘post count’ is rising quite rapidly at the moment, so that’s a good sign.
Can the member’s location be included in the info by each post like on ye olde boarde?
Nothing is impossible. However, the style of the member info isn’t under Theme control, so it would require a mod to the core code to do this. I don’t want to start modding the core code because that makes upgrades much more difficult.
