Mark all topics "read"

Is there a “mark all read” function in this software? Not familiar enough with this new software so just trying to figure out how I can zero in on the topics that interest me. I see the latest topics shown but I tend to focus on categories rather than individual posts.

I think there’s a way to mark things read but I’ll need to investigate further. You can set how different categories work for you by opening the category and then using the ‘bell’ icon in the top right corner to show the options. If you’re not interested in a particular category you could set it to ‘Mute’ and then you shouldn’t see anything about it (I think).

Also look at the ‘Tracking’ page in your Profile (under Preferences). That covers a lot of settings for tracking categories and tags (although we’ve not started to look at tags yet).

I have set a lot of preferences, but I still get told I have unread messages. . . which I have to read because there seems to be no way of dismissing them.

Having said that, I am absolutely certain that I once saw the word “dismiss” alongside a big blue tick under some post or other. . . and it worked.

Of course, at my age I can’t be sure of anything any more :slightly_smiling_face:

I’d like a mark all read function too, I read the new posts I want to, then it would be great to be able to dismiss the remainder unread with a click.

Regarding your posts remaining un-read. I have noticed that if there is only a single message and you view it, at the bottom it will say N/N for message N of N. BUT the blue bar does not always go right across to flag it has been read until you scroll the screen up a bit. I see this behaviour on my phone anyway.

There is no equivalent of the old SMF ‘Mark all read’. I get a red ‘Last visit’ line that shows me new posts since I last logged in so I just ignore anything still marked as unread below that line. I haven’t seen anything that says “You’ve got 585,267 unread posts” so the fact that there are some (a lot of) old posts that I read (if I was interested) in SMF days that are now marked as unread again isn’t a big worry to me.

I guess the principle is that messages you haven’t read aren’t read so they should still be highlighted as unread.

A topic (thread) is marked as read when you scroll to the bottom of it, either using your mouse scroll button/arrow keys or by dragging the slider bar to the right of the posts right to the bottom post.

I’ve found that the N/N post counter is only guaranteed to hit max when you scroll hard down to the end of the topic. It does sometimes show it before then but scroll as far as you can go is the only sure way to get it to max out.

@bitsostring The Dismiss button you’re thinking of is when click on your avatar and see the list of likes, bookmarks, etc. There’s a Dismiss button at the bottom of that list to acknowledge that you’re aware of all of the notifications.

I just re-read your message. Where are you seeing this? If it says messages then it means PMs so they’re on the menu displayed when you click your avatar. That’s where the Dismiss button is and I think you need to use that to get rid of the ‘warning’

“Unread messages” is a sloppy description, sorry. I mean I am informed at the top of the “Everything/Latest” screen that I have unread topics or posts in existing topics whether or not they are of interest to me.

Two recent examples: Raspberry Pi Lightning Detector (sorry) and Data … from APRS to MADIS.

For the avoidance of doubt I am not e-mailed about these, they are just “unread” and I can’t dismiss them unread. As you suggest, I’ll just ignore them from now on.

P.S. You didn’t just “re-read [my] message”, you re-read my post

There is a page with Tabs that has this function

Ah! I’ll look out for that. . .
