Leuven-Template release 2.7 (beta)

If you want to test the Beta now and do not want to wait until mid June, send me an email, (under the avatar on the left) and please also mention the URL of your current Leuven-Template (test) site

Link to Beta demo site: http://weather-template.nl/weather27/
Use the (i) in yellow box at the top to switch region and weather program.
Be aware that this is a extremely low-cost provider so do not expect the response times as fast as usual.

WiKi: in mEnglish (=my not native English without a spell-checker) : http://leuven-template.eu/dokuwiki27/doku.php?id=en:start

List of some of the changes:

  • only two tag files, a 5 minute “all tags” file not compatible with previous release
  • and a 30 seconds realtime only file mostly compatible, current realtime files which do not have to be changed are clientraw, steelseries meteobridge http
  • the uploads are in .txt format so to avoid php errors
  • introduction of _my_texts, _my_scripts folders to separate user modifications from the download scripts
  • smaller settings file as user settings are in a separate file
  • realtime data is shown immediately in dashboard and gauges, all values on 1 page should be the same now
  • the small images (rain, thunder a.s.o.) when clicked on are displayed in original size on top of the page, a link button will go to the full page
  • shorter menus possible as one can “hide” menu items which can still be used in a link
[li]upload folder only contains uploaded files
• 1 main tag file
  • optional 1 yesterday tag file as some weather-programs do not have yesterday values
  • 1 realtime file (OR 4 when clientraw is together with WD-Live
  • and the images for the gauges (when no clientraw) and the stations graphs page

[/li]
[li]all 11 weather-programs can use the gauges and 9 of them with graphs in the pop-up[/li]
[li]pre-installed WD-Live, wxwugraphs a.s.o., no customization needed[/li]
[li]partners are displayed better and can adapted to your needs, far more easier then in the previous release
[/li]
For new users life will be easier as implementation effort is far less. And far less support for new users will be needed.
Current 2.6 users should wait until release 3.0 as the amount of new pages a.s.o. is relatively small.

But any current user who loves to tinker with PHP is welcome to try this beta release.
One can easily run the two versions next to each other as the default folder after download is weather27.

  1. download and unzip
  2. upload as weather27/
  3. Set all settings to your liking following the WiKi
  4. Set your weather program to upload the two new files to your current (often weather2/upload??/) upload folder
  5. Instruct the new version to use the data from your current (example: '…/weather2/upload??/) folder.

and you can adapt, test, try to your liking.
If the new version is OK you can switch by renaming the folders: weather2/ to weather2old/ and weather27/ to weather2/
No other changes necessary.

Officialy needed warning:  it is still BETA as only a few Dutch speaking persons tested this release.
But very big changes are not expected. And the separation between the template “scripts/lang files/links/ CSS” and user modified “scripts/lang files/links/ CSS” will make loading a new version less cumbersome,

Wim

Hi.
I need to ask this question:

If the default upload folder is set to /weather27/uploadWD/ in wsUserSettings.php,
will the settings in WD look like this?

See red arrow in picture.

Pretty much, only one way to find out, might need to experiment with the /'s

Are you kiddi

Ok. Not to wonder I never got the clientraw files to upload to /weather2/upload, but had to use the root as uplad folder.

Then this setting in WD (in the picture)n has to relate to version 2,6 also?

If you are now uploading to the root, or to whatever folder, you should leave it as is.
WD is such a big program with so much possibillities that you should not change it just for a new release.

@all current users:
Point any new version, this one and all coming, always to the same place you are already uploading to.
Then you can switch back and forth between old and newer versions, between a current version and one you are just using for testing scripts, a.s.o.

Some user have three versions, their production version => weather2/
A test version for a new release => weather26/
And a copy of the production version to mess around and try things without bringing their full production website down with 1 typo in php => weather2test/

All data is uploaded to their 1 and only upload folder,
can be

  • the root,
  • weather2/uploadXX/ or as some do to
  • data/ to share data with other templates or scripts.

But when uploading works, leave it as is. Always!

I

I dont care whether or not you were right and something was missing in the instructions, that is not important, I was referring to the way you express yourself. Instead of something like “thanks for your script” you first react by “are you kiddin” and when you get a reply even then you just accept it without even appreciating it…

I have used and asked both Wim and Jachym several times, and appreciate there effort and time, but always been nice and talked decent, it helps you in the long way.

Everyone will help if asked nicely and showing respecet for there work and help.

To your question, I think Wim is explaining it very good in his last reply, anf yes we are a lot who runs several version, procuction and testing sites.

So basicly, ask nice and decent and you always get helpfull help.

Exactly Eric, Wim is one of those people who inspired me along with many others (just to name some, Ken from Saratoga, Brian, Chris and many many others). When I first joined this forum and the forum at wxforum.net what I liked so much is that people try to help each other as much as they can and some of them dedicate unbelievable amount of time and work and quite often absolutely free in their limited free time.

In this particular case, Wim

Tobydude, regarding your question, is it running now or do you still have truoble getting it to work?

Both versions are running now. (V. 2.6 and v. 2.7 beta.)

Good to hear  and happy testing

thanks.

Hi Wim
I was looking at the wiki this morning and I noticed that the wd file replacing the testtags.php is called tags.wd.txt is this the correct name as the “.” between the tags and wd may cause issues, I tried a test with that name in WD but when uploaded the file name was “tags.wd.txt_” and file type was “TXT_File” I then tried “tags-wd.txt” this uploaded as it should with a file type “text document” which is correct for a txt file.

ok I missed the bit at the bottom remote name is tagsWD.txt sorry about that
Harold

Hello Hareld,
I will take a note for that in the Wiki.
Must be some setting in WD or a specific version feature/bug.
This is checked at all WD beta testers and it works OK

Example: http://weather-template.nl/weather27/index.php?compare&p=0000&pw=&wp=WD#data-area

But if it does not work at a specific site/version, one can rename the files as one wishes.
Any acceptable filename can be used as the name is specified in a user setting.

I only switched from testtags.php because those names give to much confusion as both Sratoga and Leuven use that name.
And I switched from .php to .txt as php gives sometimes parsing errors when names have special characters in it.

And you can even give the files the testtags names as the file is not included and parsed but read as a textstring.

Wim

Hi Wim
Was editing my last post while yours was posted
I see where I got confused the table part on the weatherdisplay which files are needed has the same name in both the WeatherDisplay file name and the template file name, the template file name needs changing to tagsWD.txt as noted at the bottom of the page I only got as far as the table and started seeing alarm bells and started testing the name before reading to the bottom.
changing the file name make a lot of sense as I am uploading 2 different testtags.php as present 1 for your template and 1 for the vp console using the Saratoga template so using 2 computers to upload.
is the prasing issue what some times gives a error 500 instead on the webpage.

sorry if I have caused any porblems
Harold
