Last night, I upgraded from 10.12 r to 10.12t. That’s all I did!!
24 hours later, I noticed that my web current display, summary, weather, and lots of other “pictures” were not updating on my web since I upgraded.
Digging further, I went to the webfiles directory and noticed WD was generating .jpg files instead of .gif for these. I DID NOT CHANGE ANYTHING!! Why am I getting these .jpg’s without any warning. I am still uploading the .gif files. Now the problem is the .jpg files are 10 times bigger than the same .gif. Not good!! Note - although it applies to Web Cams, I DO NOT have the box checked to generate .jpg instead of .gif on the Summary image/icons set up screen.
How do I change back to creating nice small .gif pics? I shouldn’t have to search every screen to find a setting somewhere. Basically, my web is down because nothing is updating. Except good old WD Live.
In the mean time, I am going back to the old 10.12r version.
Hi
humm, thats odd…
it should not be doing that unless you actualy ticked to do that…
see under setup, control panel, web files/web page setup,…
and see if it is ticked, use jpg instead of gif, there
BUT, hold the phone
there was one 10.12t that, if you used the station forecast icon feature, i left some debug code in there that set the jpg use to true
so, 10.12 v will be Ok
sorry about that
new house is great
great views!
great for weather watching!
(as i lived in a vally before, now on a hill top (90m up)
i took some pics, but having trouble getting the pc to see the web camera at this stage…
will try again later
Version V is fine. One question, maybe to save experimenting time…
If I switch to .jpg, will I have to change all of my customized file uploads under “Internet File settings” or will they switch to .jpg files?
Then I realize it is my job to update the html on my web page to use the .jpg files.
And be sure to let us all know when you get some pictures of those views. Last week I was browsing some local information sites of your area and you have one beautiful country, with the urban so close to the beautiful spots.
hi
yes, you will need to change the remote file name extension in the customise setup…
but otherwise wd will change the extension for links in the datahtm2.txt and datahtm0.txt etc when you go back into the web files/web page setup
you can decrease the image quality so they are smaller file size
the purpose of the jpg option for when people have gifs that end up nly being 16 colours (for various reasons)
jpg’s are great for pictures with graduated colors, but for graphics with solid colors they are a big waste of bandwidth. Unless you have the particular gif quality problem that Brian refers to it’s best to stick to gif’s.

they could be useful if unisys goes the SCO way and sues everyone! :x

currently they only go after the big sites
the gif license thing does not apply to the component i have used, according to the author of that component, and besides, i think it has expired now…yes?
The U.S. LZW patent expired on June 20, 2003, the counterpart Canadian patent expires July 7, 2004, the counterpart patents in the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Italy expire June 18, 2004, and the Japanese counterpart patents expire June 20, 2004.
here is the pics of the house…
well more the view of the waitakere ranges (and the entrance to the Manukau Harbour)
those bush clad ranges are only 15 minutes drive from NZ’s largest city, Auckland (1 million residents)
