So I will ask, what is the best station for the money and accuracy?
All of the weather stations I have seen on this forum look like they have their flaws. If I wanted the best I would have to spend $1000
Ambient has a nice spec comparison table at http://www.shopambient.com/specs/specs.PDF
I don’t think there is a single good answer to your question. You have to strike a compromise between what you need, what you want, and how much you want to spend. I looked at a number of stations and it seems to me this is very much a “get what you pay for” situation. I happen to like accuracy and decided I was willing to pay for it, but it’s probably more than is needed for recreational weather watching and keeping an eye on my alternate location. If I was doing something weather critical like beekeeping that would be a whole different decision process.
for its price, the la crosse 2310 is a good buy , as long as you do the cable fix
the Davis VP is also a good station
the dallas 1 wire routines are CPU intensive…i.e WD is much happier on other station types
The cable fix on the WS2310 is not mandatory. It depends on if the
symptoms exist. My wind sensor has been up there for 5 months now,
with the original (telephone type) cable and I haven’t experienced any
interference.
So I would hold off on the mod unless it is really needed.
It is good to know that if I did or if I do in the future, CAT5 cable would be
the way to go.
My area is suburban, not city or country.
The WS2310 or the WS2315 variant, is quite a deal. Mine was $159 on the internet.
Not the best, but a lot of station for the money.
The biggest improvement to it would be an on board memory that could
hold more than 175 records. (Less than 3 hours at 1 minute each)
