IP webcam setup

Is there a faq for ip webcam setup?
Can`t find any.

Can`t get my ip webcam to work with wd.
I tried it with wdwebcamcapture.exe

Got this message:
Setting IP camera username and password
[ERROR] failed to connect to IP Camera.
The IP camera is down or the IPCameraURL is wrong.
[ERROR] failed to start preview
[ERROR] not recording, invoke StartRecording first.
Setting IP camera username and password
[ERROR] failed to connect to IP Camera.

[ERROR] failed to start preview

Ip camera is not down. It`s working correctly.
I think URL is wrong.
What has to be filled in?
Now I filled in my ip adress like this: http://10.x.x.x/
I also filled in my user name. There is no pasword required.

So, can anyone help me out?

If you use that same IP in a browser do you see a static jpg image? Many IP cams need more than just the IP as the address for an image.

There is a FAQ, but it’s very old now so I’m not sure how much it will help http://discourse.weather-watch.com/t/12282

Hi Niko,

When I use http://10.0.0.4/snapshot.cgi then I see a snapshot.
When I use this as URL in wd I still got the error message.

What to do?

Oebel

.cgi is a script, what does it show a static image or a video stream? If you right click, properties on the image itself does that give you a static image, e.g. jpg url?

No, I see the same url: http://10.0.0.4/snapshot.cgi

I got this from someone who uses the same ip cam. He gave me the: /snapshot.cgi
But it is not the url to get WD to work.

What type is the camera? Is there any online documentation?

It`s the FI8904/FI8904W from Foscam
here is a link to more documentation: http://foscam.com.cn/dow_list.asp?id=31

I just looked at the manual, basically it’s a video camera but it looks like it can make a snapshot at intervals and FTP to a website “FTP Mode: support standard(POST) mode and passive(PASV) mode. Upload Image Now: it will upload image now when checkbox is not checked. When checked, you can input upload interval(Seconds) .”

I don’t know how or if webcamcapture can use a video stream, sorry. I think there may be third party software that can grab an image from the stream, or if you can get that timed snapshot ftp to work then you can have WD grab the image from the website.

I use http://www.webcamxp.com/home.aspx and it works well. Easy to setup and has numerous features. It does both my video stream and ftp of still images 24/7 from my IP camera.

hi Niko and firewall,

thanks for your support. I think I will try the software posted by firewall.
I think it`s the easiest way to get it to work.

Good plan

I use it as well and am very pleased with it!
