Sorry I’ve been “away” from the forums a bit… this trio of hurricans is in fact taking its toll on us not only with the “stuff” but emotionally as well… I am so TIRED of these storms…it’s unbelievable… even as Hurricane Jeanne preps to start slamming us I find myself in disbelief…
So far our highest windgust has only been 36mph and our barometer is dropping like a rock… down to 29.574 in now from over 30 in yesterday morning…
Due to the several hurricanes that have hit our state the odds of getting power back within a reasonable amount of time are pretty slim… the crews are tired and most are staying up north continueing to assist with the Hurricane Ivan problems and concerned that they’ll be needed up there anyway due to Jeanne so getting crews down here by us is proving to be difficult already… we shall see…
We’re expecting our worst winds between 5am and 2pm tomorrow…which is about 5 hours from the time of this posting…
Wish us luck…and This is the THIRD Hurricane our weather station will have to stand through in only 6 weeks time… WOW
and the amazing thing was when you first got your station, and you said you lived in Florida, and that you had it mounted on top of a large tall pine treee, I asked, dont you get Hurricanes in Florida…and you said, yeah, sometimes, but there has not been one for ages!!!now 3 in your location!!!
No need to apologise. I’ve not experienced a hurricane, but I can imagine what the mental and physical effects might be like and I’m surprised you’re finding time to come on here at all!
The station is not on top of a pine… it’s on a low poll that is in a yard that is … errrr was… surrounded by pine and oak trees etc…
It’s still standing there even though many of the other things in that pic no longer are…
Things are really starting to pick up speed around here now but Jeanne, as is the case with these storms, is not following the track…seems she is moving more west than north so some folks on the west coast are now waking up to quite a surprise.
It’s going to be a very long and interesting day… I never thought I’d say this but I can’t wait for winter to arrive
We lost power early this morning but have it back now…
I’m thrilled we got it back so quickly but also a bit nervous
because a tree fell on the power lines in our yard early this
morning and it’s still there!
My photos are extremely poor but they were taken while it was
still blowing…as a matter of fact it is STILL blowing out there
now… we’re in the 40mph wind gust range at this point…
I don’t think our worst hours gave us more than 80mph gusts so
all in all we got real lucky that Jeanne went more west
As far as I can see from my driveway looking both ways down the
street it’s the only tree that crosses the street and at least
it makes a nice bridge that causes traffic to slow down in front
of my home lol
Hard to tell with the pics but it’s pretty tangled up at the top
and hanging on by a thread at the bottom…
One other tree of interest on our property is this one:
Two trees broke on the backside of the fence… those two broken
trees are holding up the broken tree on the frontside of our fence
creating a bridge close to 12 ft high over the fence. Part of me
says “Thank God the fence was saved…” the other part of me says
“How are we going to get it down w/o breaking the fence?” lol
Our main front room window is leaking water in heavily so I’ve
got that area covered in plastic and towels…
Other than a few downed (or not quite downed lol) trees, some
more minor roof damage, and the leaky windows I think we’re
doing pretty good here. Considering what could’ve happened
I’m walking away from storm number 3 with a smile … and very tired eyes
Hopefully we’ll get positive reports from everyone else as well!
Glad to hear you faired pretty well -
Don’t touch that tree on the wire! Around here that’s a rule. I suppose it could take a month for the power company to get to you to remove it though.
Thanks for the update.
Hello PicOlio,
I live in the US in Florida in 1990, 1991 and 1992. Bush junior’s father was in power. I could see what was Andrew Hurricane. I was a supporter of the republican’s. I really change my mind with this president behavior. Now, Bush’s father’s son is really attracting hurricane in the south-east of US (his brother is in governor there). Better change your president before this innocent president start a new world war.
Sorry about this, but this person should be in a mad house. Maybe this post will be erased by the moderator. I will not post another one like this post because I know I’m not allowed following this forum rule.
Sorry Brian or Windy.
