Growing degrees days

Hi,
In Daily Report there is value “Growing degrees days”.
Wherefrom that value comes? I don’t find any info for that.
(third line from bottom in this link: http://www.antto.net/saa/November2004.htm)

Brian, is possible add two tags for this? E.g “monthGDR” and “yearGDR”
Even better if that value can be put on the graph!
