First - the autoport detection is not working for me in this setup.
I have always after each start of Weather-Display to click on COM 2 manually - also on 4800 baud - after this - I click on start one time and Weather-Display gets the gps-datas from my Garmin eTrex Summit (NMEA-Protocol). Everything is fine.
But I can never click on the switch for “ON” - when I do that - after I restart Weather-Display - my COM Port 1 is dead - and I get no datas from my Weather-Station. Also COM Port 2 is not working anymore. I have to restart Weather-Display after I have made all changes back to work correctly again.
So - I think at least - Weather Display is not saving correctly the COM-Port Settings for the GPS-Setup - is this maybe possible?
It is a little bit “nasty” always to go in that menu to start the gps manually - it would be nice when it will work “automatically” with the settings I have choosen.
Has anybody also problems with that? Or a advice? Please tell me. Thank you.
Also - I do not know if that will be possible - but is it maybe possible to use the gps datas somehow in Weather-Display?
Like the time - the satelites - the longitude/lattitude - and so on and so on - that would be great.
My Garmin Summit gives a lot of datas out - so I think it would be nice to use them somehow - only if possible of course.
next version, ready soon, i will make wd remember all the settings in the gps, and set those all up the next time you start wd, if you have the switch on…i never did finish that part of wd…have a bit more time now
Wow - Thank you again for your fast updates - unbelievable how you made it - Thank you very much.
Ok - about the GPS-Setup - it nearly works perfectly now - but…
As you can see - the settings are now saved in the wdisplay.ini:
[GPS]
do it=yes
port to use=2
port to use speed=4800
port to use speed bits=8
port to use speed stop bits=2
port to use parity=none
port to use dtr=no
That is great of course - Thank you very much. But - it looks like the COM-Port is not remembered correctly - a example:
I have setup my GPS-Setup like above. When I close Weather-Display and I restart Weather-Display and I go to the GPS-Setup again - the Baudrate is ok - the bits are ok - the stopbits are ok and so on. But the COM-Port is not 2 - it is 1!!!
And there is the problem - on COM-Port 1 is my weatherstation connected - and so - nothing works - no datas from the weatherstation - and no GPS-Datas.
Is it maybe possible that the COM-Port is not “remembered” correctly? Or is COM-Port 1 default maybe?
Would be great when you can check this - when you should have the time for that - Thank you!
Also - when you should have a look there - please can you check this also:
When I want to leave the GPS-Setup and “save” my changes - I can click “OK” - but nothing happens! I can only leave the GPS-Setup when I click on the “X” in the right corner - please - can you check what is maybe wrong with the “OK” button? Thank you!
But not to forget - Thank you very much of course for your fast and great help and updates - very appreciated!
If anybody can tell - is it possible to “use” the GPS-Datas I get from my Garmin (for example the lat/long for the sunmoon-setup or the altitude for something) somehow? Or is it possible to show the gps-datas also on the webpage? That would be nice - Thank you!
my mistake re the comport settings
i did the code for comport 1, but missed the others
i must have got side tracked (easy to do with a 2 year old boy wanting your attention all the time)
i will upload a new full version 10.15v now
download that in about 2 hours (i.e when you get up in the morning)
re using the data…what data did you want to use?
i do know someone wanted the wind direction adjust by the gps north, for a weather station on a bouy, once
And congrats!!! Now - all settings are saved correctly and also - after Weather-Display has started - the GPS-Settings are also loaded correctly and it works “automatically” - perfect! Thank you very much!
Also the “OK” button works now - Thank you again!
About the datas from my Garmin GPS:
Hmm - if possible I thought about
To use maybe the long/lat datas for the Moon-Setup
To use the altitude
To use the time (“synchronize”)
and so on - something like that.
Maybe also - if possible - maybe to show which satellites are used/able to see at the moment - like the graphic in the GPS-Menu - also to see how strong are the signals from the satellites on so on.
But of course - only if that will be possible somehow.
I’m happy enough that you have “fixed” the GPS-Setup - that is really perfect now - Thank you again very much for this and of course - again - for being such fast!
I only hope you have some time left for your child, wife, your work and so on with all the updates you do for us to use Weather-Display!
