Globe setup in 10.20b

Hi Brian,
I just dl’ed 10.b and noticed a Globe Setup. Can you tell us what that’s about?

ardvark is the person to ask about that
its a school based weather to a central shareing point project
I just need to add auto email of the data function, then its complete

Howdy:
First of all… Globe … http://www.globe.gov/globe_flash.html. It is a very nice project for schools. allows them to share data and for that data to be used in actual research around the world.
they have a set of protocols . For me , I can send them weather data from my station. The hitch is that you have to attend a workshop on how the program works. I took that recently and it isn’t hard at all and you come away with the sense that you could have probably done this without taking a class. They have contact information on where to get certified.

The procedure I had was to download data from Weatherlink, then cut and paste it and send it to globe daily. but that involves shutting down WD and going into another program andthen doing my thing and restarting. Hence the sensor spikes in the data.

Brian took the time and effort to put this into his software. Now that is quite something to realize how hard he works for all of us.

If you are interested, I bet if you go to the Globe site and send them an email to your local globe office they can get you started. One other thing comes to mind, is that the protocol he has is for the Davis unit. you can also manually send it your self from data readings.

An example of their work is on contrails. Contrails being sort of clouds. From space they don’t show on the satellite images. Yet, they do have an impact on solar absorption and reflection that normally would be limited to clouds. So they have this protocol in which kids learn how to count and send counts of contrails. Gets the kids into research, and meaningful research right away. IF you have a school nearby that is involved with Globe, see if they will give you their username to send your data…
