Fwi

Whats the best way to setup the FWI I get about a 5 on the scale but the pointer is always at LOW and it has been very dry around here…

you will need to set the values to start up values, i.e close to your nearest official FWI values (i.e all of them, like DC, FFMC, etc ) :wink:
(see in the FWI view)

Where can I find my closest offical FWI values???
Thanks

not sure really
maybe someone else here can help you with that
(i live in New Zealand, and I dont know the USA fire info network system)

Where can I find my closest offical FWI values??? Thanks
try here [http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/Phoenix/fire/index.html](http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/Phoenix/fire/index.html)

I did a google search and came up with this:
http://www.crh.noaa.gov/den/fireindx.html

Also the local NOAA office could give the info out.

Thanks for the help people…I am looking into it and will let you know if I am successful! :smiley:

I was unable to find the readings required for the FWI so I made my own values based on conditions where I live. FWIW, my area is prone to wildfires due to lack of rain during the summer, hot temps, and plenty of fuel to burn…

Here are my values from today:

FFMC - 88.0
DMC - 48
DC - 400
ISI - 4.2
BUI - 74
FWI - 14.4

These readings show my area as moderate risk for today.

HTH.

well what does each inputed value stand for? I am having a real hard time finding that out.
Thanks for the help again

i guess i need to have that within wd
it is on a FWI web page though

I went all over the local area and the only real FWI stuff is out west and of course Alaska where the fire danger is greatest. We are still wet enough this summer, not usual for these parts. Iowa really doesn’t have a FWI per se. THE local NOAA has a spot fire report. And a service that if a person were going to have a controlled burn, then they could plan the event by contacting the NOAA with some data of sorts and get the report to go ahead or not.

http://spot.nws.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/spot/spotmon?site=dmx and then again
http://www.crh.noaa.gov/ifps/wxplanner.php?site=dmx

So the only values I have are what my station generates. :cry:

Hi !
What I did on mine to get started, is I entered high values for each start value. If you know that you are already in a high fire danger catagory, it should become fairly accurate in a few days after you enter the start values and click the “set these start values” button. Then, click the “test” button and the pointer will move to high, and data values will be posted in the data box. Here are the values you can try:

FFMC=100
DMC=50
DC=300
ISI=30
BUI=50
FWI=22

Good luck :!: :slight_smile:

well I think I am getting closer… At least now the needle has gone up to high…which should be about right. :wink:

I will let it go for a few days to see how it reacts…
Thanks again for the help…
