I am new to FTP and have questions. I don’t what to enter in the following fields (xxxxxxx)
CONNECTIONS
FTP Host settings
FTP Host/Server: xxxxxxxxxxxx
Remote Directory (on ftp site): xxxxxxxxx
FTP Username: u36668115
FTP Passwoard: 383961

GENERAL FTP FUNCTIONS
Selected File: xxxxxxxxxx
Selected remote File name: xxxxxxxxxx
Remote Directory to use: xxxxxxxxxx

My URL is www.northdeeringweather.us

Thanks, George

Hi
dont worry about the general ftp setup
its the setup in the connections setup that is important
the server name might be something like
ftp.northdeeringweather.us

the remote directory you maybe have to just leave blank
but you might not
email me the correct username and password, as those ones did not work for
ftp.northdeeringweather.us (it tried to log in)

I made a typo. The Username is u36663115 and the Password is 383961

hi
well, files are there
but you cant view any of them in a browser
so not quite sure whats wrong
holefully a more tech savy will ftp/log into your web site and see whats up
(it might a directory thing)

If it’s a ‘text based’ file upload in ASCII Mode (95% will be).
Graphics need to be uploaded in Binary Mode.

the strange thing is, the files are there, but they cannot be seen in the browser (and view source shows the same thing all the time)

Interesting …

I clicked on the link above (http://www.northdeeringweather.us/) and get a blank page (as your aware) The page title does show up in the IEBrowser ‘top bar’ “NORTH DEERING WEATHER” but when you view the source all I had was

This is the source I see, don’t know what generated this but since it has frames I don’t think it was WD

<HTML><HEAD>
<META NAME="description" content="">
<META NAME="keywords" content="">
<TITLE>NORTH DEERING WEATHER</TITLE>

</HEAD>
<FRAMESET ROWS="100%,*" BORDER="0" FRAMEBORDER="0">
<FRAME SRC="http://www.northdeeringweather.us/" SCROLLING="AUTO" NAME="bannerframe" NORESIZE>
</FRAMESET>
<NOFRAMES>
NORTH DEERING WEATHER
<P>
<DIV ALIGN="CENTER"><A HREF="http://www.northdeeringweather.us/">http://northdeeringweather.us/</A></DIV>
</NOFRAMES>
</HTML>

Just for funzies, upload a test index file. At this point I wouldn’t be concerned about over writing any existing file since it’s not displaying properly any how.

index.html

<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE>This is a Test</TITLE>
</HEAD>
<BODY BGCOLOR="#000000" TEXT="#00FF00">
<Center><H3>This is a Test</H3></Center>
<Center><H5>My Name is index.html</H5></Center>
</BODY>
</HTML>

Hi,

I have just edited your index.html via FTP, the syntax was wrong, it is now working ok.

You now need to change your user name & password…

Cheers,

Michael

Whoops!

I got it ok & then it dissappeared again…

There is something definitely wrong or hidden on your server, even if you put in a wrong address it still gives the faulty source page, i.e. try /inde.html. If you put in something that exists i.e. /summary.gif you get it ok…

Cheers & good luck,

Michael

if you check the files a ftp program, and then choose a gif as the url that exists, it wont get shown,…instead the default index.html with the frames, which is still there michael, is always shown no matter what you do…strange
its like there is some redirect to another url?

That url gives me:

error 403: Forbidden!

The server understood the request, but is refusing to fulfill it. Authorization will not help and the request SHOULD NOT be repeated.

it was not doing that before…

Just want to thank everybody for the help. I just am so new to FTP that I am confused I know that I am doing something wrong. However ,I will learn and keep trying. You are all a great group of people and I am proud to be part of this forum.

This page works http://www.northdeeringweather.us/wsc106411723/ and I uploaded this http://www.northdeeringweather.us/wsc106411723/readme.html to that same directory and I can see it too - so we’re close

I sent a copy of my FTP log to my web server (1and11 Web Creator) yesterday and this is there replay:

Your domain northdeeringweather.us is fowarded to http://www.northdeeringweather.us. This might be the reason why you cannot view your site on the browser. Please try to point the domain to the folder where you have uploaded your files. You can refer to this link on how to edit your domian destination. http://faq.1and1.com/domains/domain_destination/2.html

http://www.northdeeringweather.us/wsc106411723/readme.html
still does not work for me nikoshepard

i thought about, and tried to view uploaded files there too…

Well #$@!, there is something really strange going on here 8O I always check my links after posting and they both worked, but you are right, now a few minutes later neither one works, AND the source has been overwritten 8O

Is this a free hosting with ads deal? Maybe the adding the ad bit has gone beserk?

its always the same thing that is overwritten
but the file is not in that folder
so its a redirect going on, always to the same place…
weird
i would contact the ISP
