FTP upload problem and question

Something seems to have changed in version 10.19o or thereabouts with respect to the FTP uploads to my web page server…

I had been using “General FTP Functions” under "“FTP/Internet Setup” to upload the files to my server for years. A couple of days ago I noticed that they were no longer uploading…

I looked at the General FTP Functions and noticed that my server name, logon in, and password were no longer there. I then noticed that they were in the “Custom Internet” section… It appears that the Custom section is for very specific purposes and not for general every day use, however…

I put the server name, id, and password back in the General FTP Functions and enabled it, but it will not upload except when I manuallt test it, even though I have it set for every ten minutes…

So, the question is, where SHOULD I ideally setup my FTP uploads and specify files in the current WD version? Also, I’d like to upload every 5 minutes… Is there a way to automatrically select that without having to enter the tie manually? Every 10 minutes is the lowest automatic selection…

Thanks!

Tom

The place where you want to set your general FTP functions is under the “connections” tab.
“general FTP functions” is for upload non-WD files.

Try entering your server information under “connections”

Yes, I have it set up in there in fact but that does not have any provision for what files are uploaded or when…

If you are using the settings on “connections” the times are set on the “Web Files Upload Times” tab, under the same control panel FTP/Internet etc icon, and the files created are determined by the settings under the "web files/web page icon. But none of that is new and you are an experienced user so I’m puzzled by your question.

Maybe having the switch in “general FTP functions” turned on isn’t right. I’ve never used that and have the switch off.

Other than that - a bit puzzled myself.
But…we’ll get it figured out!

I tried turning off that switch but it made no difference… Perhaps Windy has an idea…

Under Setup – Control Panel – Customise Internet file creation and upload – is the override switch turned off?

Yes, that switch is off… This all started a version or two back after working fine for more than two years… Weird!

It’s not a firewall or other such issue since it works fine if I manually select the Upload function from the WD Activity pull down. It simply will not do it automatically as it used to in the past…

This is good.

Seems like I recall an issue where a manual FTP upload would work but an automatic FTP upload would not work. After many days of trying to figure this out we determined the firewall was stopping the automatic FTP upload.

No, in this case WD is not even trying to do the automatic uploads… In any event, I use a hardware firewall and it has been unchanged for over two years…

You might try downloading WD v10.19o again and installing it. See if there is anything in the FTP log.
Or try Weather Display Beta 10.19 debug. See if that helps.

Try setting the “Custom Internet” section

hi
i would email me your settings files

and , the general ftp is not intended for use for uploading wd files
(unless you want them to upload to a 2nd server)

i recommend you use the customise internet and file creation upload (and check the remote file names there)
that is what i use, it is designed to set times to create and upload all the wd web files

I’m using Custom now since I can not get the other to work any longer, but it has a number of drawbacks for me… One problem is that the Custom Internet Upload section does not have some of the files (such as my maps.html) that I use and I can not find a place to add them.
