Ftp hangs at " open port "

Hi,

I have a small and irregular problem with the new ftp-update program. Sometimes it hangs when opening the port, i.e. : the connection with the ISP is estblished, but the ftp doesn’t recognize this and keeps trying to open the port infinitely . In the end I have no choice but to kill the ftp with ctrl/alt/del , bexxause both abort and fkill/force hangup don’t work either. This doesn’t happen evry time, but ocasionally. I’ve set the wait on slow connection to 12 minutes and the delay is at 10 seconds , because before it tended to hang completely because the ftp wanted to update while he connection wasn’t yet established…any suggestions ??

Rik

is this with a dial up or permanet connection?

there is a problem when a second ftp starts and the first one is still establishing a connection…the second one then does not when the connection is established
i will see what i can do

It’s a dial up connection (56k modem ) . It’s only three things I programmed the ftp for : download 2 metars and upload to both wunderground and aprs …

Rik

i am uploading vers 9.30d/6.24 now…

should be much better
hang in there!
aslo, i see some people do not have ticked show in system tray under connections…

Hi,

with the new ftp, I get an error messge, when my DUN-connection ist not available, becouse an other PC uses it (I dont have internet sharing).
The old ftp in that case waited one minute and made a redial, the new ftp doesnt, but waits for at about 5 minute and then closes.

Can I chance that?

Peter

And I forgot

With actual version af ftp I have the same problems as rikwes!

Peter

the cascadign open port i am sure i have fixed in the latest verison, as i was affected too…
does it just happen if you are already connected ?

Yes, it is connected, but the only thing ftp does is writing hundreds of times “open port”.

When I cancel it with strg+alt+del, the modem hangs up.

Peter

Add me to the list ( I’m getting the error as well - error 134 ) & the FTP connection stays connected .

glad the old FTP still work’s :stuck_out_tongue:

hi all,

i have a permanent (fast) internet connection
so it’s more clear what the status is (vs a modem)

when ftp 's hanging I can see in the logfile
the password wasn’t accepted and ftp tries and tries

I have to fill it in again after update WD
and when dubugging something
but then it’s working for a while or permanent

what does all your log file says ?

maybe this can help some of you

Not “Open Port” failure. That is next, but, “Error message”.

Only fails with dialup. High speed (DSL) works great, only I have Dialup at the weather station location.

that would be caused by it finishing when it has not acutaly finished yet!
just a metar download as the only agenda item seems to be the culprit (if it is done with other agenda items then i think its OK

i will test (but the father in law is here and cracking the whip getting me doing jobs around the house!)

Tell the father-inlaw the fishing’s great at the moment ( snapper are spawning in the Firth of Thames )
then maybe you’ll get some real work done

BTW
The FTP failures are not a problem for me. I use the old default FTP program when it matters to me and I don’t attempt a NOAA “Forecast” download when using a dialup connection.

the waiting 20 seconds…do you have password remembered in your dial up networking?

Yes, the password is remembered in DUN, FTP, Weather Display. I don’t believe the 20 sec wait is any problem. I think it is just MS DUN or WIN 98SE.

BTW , here is my system info:
