forum message "glitch" in Netscape 7.0

I am using Netscape 7.0 here at work and I have noticed on the forum that the text in each message posted is put in some sort of scroll box. The full text is not displayed.

Sometimes the scroll box controls are not visible and this means only one line of text is displayed out of the whole message, this can still be scrolled with the mouse but is barely readable.

Is this a local PC issue? or a forum software issue? (this is not the only forum to do this I have noticed), or a browser issue?

any settings that can be changed?

Martyn

There are a couple of other comments a bit like this on the SMF forum, but no fixes that I can see. I did see one reference to Netscape 7 having a problem with the HEIGHT= if used in

or
tags. The default template that this forum is based on has a lot of these in it and changing them would be a major chunk of work and may not actually be the cause of the problem in the first place!

Are you able to capture the source code of a message window that has the scroll bars?

yes both your reply and my question are in a scroll box.

The only thing I can see that may cause it is that the text is within a DIV tag as follows

perhaps the overflow setting of auto is what causes it??

I dunno - CSS is a bit beyond me but CSS2 - The overflow declaration seems relevant where Netscape has problems with it?!?

It could be the “overflow: auto” that’s causing the problem. I’ve found one comment about that elsewhere. Unfortunately the default SMF theme has a number of these overflow statements included in it. My theme is built on the default theme and the SMF devs warn us often not to touch the default theme!

I’ve asked them if they know of a problem and if so whether there is a fix available.

Using Netscape version 7.2 with no problems.

The install over previous version (7.1) was seamless.
