I’ve got my thermo/hydro sensor located up under the NNE eave of the house.
It’s enclosed in a very well ventilated housing, including now a permanent fan, which sucks air in. I cannot mount it into a pinata… er… stevenson’s shield due to the high child traffic in front of the house. I also cannot move it to the backyard because the cabling would be excessively long. During the summer it gave outstandingly accurate temp readings.
The issue I am seeing (not sure if it’s a real problem or localized phenomena) is that since it started getting colder, the temp has been 3-4 degrees off HIGHER than other area sites in the morning hours before sunrise.
At first, I thought it was either thermal bleed from the house or trapped warm air under the eave. So, I added some insulation above the sensor, increased the vent holes in the housing, and added a fan.
Nothing changed.
And take this morning. Most area sites dipped down to 33-34F while mine never got below 37F… but the wind has been steadily blowing all through the night.
I cannot see where any warm pockets of air could be trapped ANYWHERE around the house.
To add to the mystery, I have another wireless sensor near the WS-2310. It also gives readings within 1F of the WS… so its not a faulty sensor.
Is it definitely happening before the sun rises, or at around sunrise?
One of my sensors is positioned in a north-westerly facing (internal) corner of the house and I get a sharp rise in temp in the evening when the sun hits it just before sunset. I never thought that the sun reached that corner until I saw the temp rises and worked out what was causing it. I really need to put some screening round the sensor, but other jobs have kept me busy recently.
Maybe your just in a spot that doesn’t lose as much heat radiating into the night air. Where I live (Ct.) its not unusual to have temp. differences of 3 to 4 degrees as you drive along within a 5 mile range.
I have almost the exact setup as you. Sensor mounted in the same place and direction and I have a WS-2010. Mine also varies a few degrees from others but mine is lower. I’ve moved it several times and this was the best for lack of sun etc. I think it is just the location of my house. There are a few rolling hills on the road I live on and you can feel the temp changes as you drive along.
