There’s an ongoing project to re-engineer the Discourse forum software to remove old/obsolete components and another phase is coming to an end soon. I rebuilt the software this evening which has done a few things in the background and some that you’ll possibly notice, i.e.
- Background - The database has been upgraded from Postgres v13 to v15
- Background - Numerous components have been upgraded/replaced
- Background - The Locations plugin has been updated to fix issues with it and remove various incompatibilities.
- A new ‘glimmer’ style is replacing the old style. You’ll probably notice that the look of the forum has changed in some places, e.g. the topic lists. Each topic takes up a bit more vertical space than before which I think is unfortunate but I don’t think there’s anything I can do to improve this. The glimmer style is currently optional but will be the only style from Q2-2025 so it’s something we’ll just have to get used to.
- Dark/light mode is now built into the software. The icon (at the bottom of the sidebar) is now a half white/half black circle rather than the previous moon icon.
- The user/topic map locations have been broken for a while but are now working again. If you’d like to add your location (as exactly as you’d like) to your profile then that now works again.
If you notice anything new that’s broken please let me know.
