Davis Vantage Pro

Does the Davis Vantage Pro come with a data cable or do you have to get is seperately ?? Does anyone have to info to make one if necessay ??
I’ve looked at their spec but can’t figure out if you have to get WeatherLink to get the cable or not. Vantage Pro should be here on Wed and of course I’ll be away til Sun. Oh well what the heck.

Thanks

Hello,

Weatherlink comes together with a Logger and the the Data Cable (ComPort). You must buy WL seperatly. You can`t buy only the software or only the Hardware! It is in one Box.

and there is no way around it :frowning:
no one has come up with an alternative :frowning:
and unfortunately the data logger is quite expensive…when other weather stations have support for data to the PC built in

Check out www.provantage.com they had the best price last time I looked. The trade off is their less than friendly customer service policies but if you know what you want that shouldn’t be a problem (and support direct from Davis is great).

I’ll second that recommendation of Davis’ service. The support I’ve received from Davis is remarkable! I wouldn’t consider another’s weather station unless Davis went out of business.

By the way, I would recommend http://www.scientificsales.com as a possible source for VP and VP-PRO & WeatherLink. They treat their customers right.

Best regards to all,

Ed

I also got my VP through Provantage via Ebay. A short exchange of email and I was able to add on the datalogger withough extra shipping. I have since bought more online from them. So far I have been very happy with Provantage.

Quote as of 8/24/04 - Provantage Price:
Rain Collector Heater (DAVS030) - Not Returnable 114.95
Subtotal: 114.95
Shipping: 5.45
Order Total (US$): 120.40

Better than the $160 at the Davis site and this is with UPS.

I’ll third it for Davis’s service. Top notch!!

Is anyone familiar with the data logger from BlueWave Ltd in the UK ?? It seems a lot cheaper than the Davis unit. I have one of their solar sensors coming and I know Brian is using the same one.

As always, Thanks

they have now made a datalogger?
and its cheaper?
that sounds good!

Hey guys,

I have checked out the Provantage site on Ebay, there prices are very good…so far I have not heard back from the regarding wether or not they deliver to NZ? Does anyone know if they do and what the expected delivery times/costs are? :?:

Best regards all
Andrew

Here’s a quote right from Provantage page for the Davis Vantage Pro:

Brand Davis Instruments - Vantage Pro Weather Stations & Accessories
Manuf Part 6150C
Returns Not Returnable
Restriction Not Available to Some Countries Outside USA - Please Inquire.
Our Part DAVS00C

Their starndard terms say that they are not allowed to export to a whole bunch of countries due to manufacturers restrictions, NZ is one of them. That may just be the “official” word, but you could maybe find a friendly weather person in the US to on-forward the parcel for you if you paid for it and had it delivered to them
I’ve had relatives in California do this for me where an occasional eBayer won’t ship outside the US.

I’d be more than happy to recieve & ship
but…you’d have to trust me!

its an issue with the frequency used for the wireless…the US standard is not allowed in NZ…it needs to be a different frequency…thats the theory…as long as your neighbours automatic door does not open and shut all day long, you will be OK 8O

WOW what a nice unit. It’s up and in a test mode as it’s not mounted where I want it to go, but good enough for testing. The solar sensor that I have coming is from www.BlueWaveLtd.co.uk. They also have a datalogger that I could have gotten quite a bit cheaper on Ebay, but I wasn’t sure how long it would take to get here from the UK, so I bought from ProVantage. Sure hope it doesn’t get knocked out by a nearby lightning strike. I’m leaving the lightning detector and 1-wire solar sensor off the 1-wire network for now.

Thanks to everyone for the info that you provided.

 8O

Cheers

There are some posts that the bluewave solar reads too high, YMMV as they say…

i have a blue wave sensor
yes, reads too high, but i have allowed a offset (%) in the solar setup, and now its working beautifully
( i have used 40%)

How much use is that to someone who just uses the console :?

I’m using the Bluewave solar sensor and it works fine for me too. In the UK it’s far cheaper than the Davis version and is supposed to have better accuracy/stability over time. They are bringing out a retrofit FARS soon which also has better spec than the Davis equivalent. Plus it will fit the earlier rectangular VP ISS as well as the newer circular ones.

Julian

Well, I guess I’m missing something, you are saying it has better accuracy, and Brian is saying he needs a 40% 8O correction factor.
