I know a few have had this & it only occurs from time to time but tonight WD crashed with a “WD has to close” message.
It is to do with the ZIP backup. My WD is set to backup at 22:00 which means it happens at 22:55.
I checked my Backup folder this afternoon and the 102004.zip files was there along with the registry file both dated yesterday at 22:55.
When I looked at my PC tonight at 23:10 WD has crashed. Before doing anything I looked in the Data Backup Folder, the registry file was there and dated today at 22:55 but the 102004.zip file had gone.
If I do a manual backup it works ok and the 102004.zip file comes back.
I think it is something to do with Windows XP - it doesn’t seem to happen with other operating systems.
I think Brian is scratching his head over this one!
I tried the zip backup for a first time a few months back and although the manual test worked ok - the scheduled one caused a crash which also corrupted data in a datafile for the month.
needless to say I don’t use the databackup function at all.
Crashed again last night at 22:55/59. Backup time set to 22.
yeah, what ever the hour you set, then its at 55 minutes past the hour it does it
i have just turned it on myself…
note, that, you dont need to add files, unless you want to add files that wd does not zip automaticly
i think i should be able to fix this crash with this hopefully
