Comm port problem

First let me say I’ve searched and read all the posted Q/A about this problem but have been unable to resolve this issue.

Davis Weather Monitor II Wireless/Solar
Windows XP Pro with all updates
ANY/ALL version of WD (which I’ve been using for several years)

When WD starts both of the “Data” lights at the bottom are red.
The only way to get them green is to open the Comm Port Setup screen and click “OK”. I don’t have to change anything, just open the panel and click “OK”. Within a couple of seconds both lights are green with the top blinking as is normal.

This condition has existed with 3 different PCs (different motherboards, CPU, etc) and with every version of WD since I started using the program several years ago.

The top of the program lists: Davis WM II Comm Port OK - Metar update, comport disconnected.

I have tried this connected directly to the comm port on the back of the pc and with a USB adapter. Same results.

Any help greatly appreciated.

thats your clue
Metar update, comport disconnected

go to setup, ftp/internet settings,metar/ftp download, and untick:
“use the metar to update weather displays data (only if you dont have a weather station!)”

then restart wd, and all will be OK

Well I feel stupid.

Thanks Brian! Worked as directed.

I just ran into this issue. Followed steps and it resolved.

My question is simply, why did/does this happen? what causes this to be an issue?

For further knowledge and understanding is why I ask.

someone must have set that setting by accident
