Today I installed WD on a new (faster) PC. When I start WD I always have to open the settings for the com-port and click ok. Else WD won’t connect with my Vantage Pro. I use com 1 and everything is set like it should. The ini file also indicates port 1 as my comport. Do you know what went wrong?
No errors in errorlog, only the Vantage pro data extractions keeps waiting. When I close the extraction I have to manually re-assign the comport. I just open the comsettings menu and click ok because the com1 is already selected. After this it works ok.
check that the time and date on the VP console matches the PC time and date, otherwise the data extraction at start up will struggle
and set the VP to 1 minute logging too
I checked, this is the same. I also unchecked the extract data at startup but the problem remains. I have a P4 Prescott now…
Could you maybe simulate the action when you click the ok button from the comport setting menu at startup? I don’t know which procudere is ran at that time, but it works that way…
hi
there is a hint/tip about XP and the comport…i,.e how windows assigns a ball point mouse to the com port
maybe check that posting, and see if that fixes things for you
I had this same situation arise on a working system maybe a year ago. I finally moved the VP to com2 where it has worked perfectly ever since. I checked the mouse suggestion when I saw it last week but that was not the problem.
I checked the com-port suggestion but no good. Still the same problem. If I had a 2nd port I would try that one, but the 2nd is an internal connection so I have to bring it out with a connector and a slot.
One thing I didn’t check, but thought of later, was the bios settings for the com port. But if you only have one port then there won’t be an example to compare.
The bios is ok, I can connect with Virtual Weather Station without a problem on startup. I don’t think a USB to serial adapter is “the” solution because sometimes the driver is loaded less fast than the program starts up. At that point tho program don’t find the port and gives an error. I already have a usb to serial connector for my UPS and I wrote a program for a delay startup of the UPS monitoring program.
i will reverse engineer the vws data.csv file soon, so you can still get data to WD (and that also could mean other vws users could use wd as well, and even wdl)
(but a big weekend here…150 year celebration of pioneer settlement, and the school is catering, i am on the pta !
I actually have the same problem with my com port,
I have to go each time into COM Port setup and push OK to get going.
I think the problem is with ZoneAlarm Pro, could that bee?
koen
download a new 10.19s zip version in about 1 hour from now
then in the weather station type setup, stationless tab, choose the data.csv VWS file
then tick to use this type
then it should work
(did for me (by having WD produce a data.csv file)
this means all VWS users can now run WD and even run WDL
hi
it is read, its just that its not visible…which is because wd does not know what weather station type is sending the data
but if you have the solar switch on, then the solar info should show up…
