Cheap starter weather station that can interface to PC?

Guys,
I have a nephew that is interested in the weather. I’m looking for a starter weather station that he can get started with and of course connect to WD. Any ideas or suggestions.

If by starter you also mean cheap, then the La Cross WS23xx range of stations would be a good choice IMHO.

I have only had my WS2305 for a few months but I am particularly impressed with the accuracy of the rainfall data. I have read on here the wind sensor reads a bit low but that doesn’t concern me (my wind exposure is poor anyway). The console is not what I would call high quality but luckily I am running WD and rarely look at it .

I haven’t needed to replace the wind sensor cable but I see many others have (the cable hasn’t been changed but maybe La Crosse fixed something in recent models?). I am having some issues trying to extend the cables in wired mode but that is due to my siting preferences.

As they say, you get what you pay for but these stations seem to be adequate for most purposes.

Look at Oregon Scientific too, or maybe a used Davis WMII (tacky for a gift I guess).
