I know I am probably missing something simple here, but can’t figure it out.
I want to change the font colors in this table. I can’t find it anywhere in the color set up. I found it in data1htm - changed a font color, but the change won’t stay. In the web files/summary image screen, there is an option to tick “manage data0 & data 2”, but nothing there to manage data1.
So…how can I change the font colors in this table?
The short answer is you can’t at the moment - I don’t think Brian has added this functionality in WD yet? That table and data and text and colours are created by WD on each web update.
This is why I moved away from the default page to use a custom page with tags so I could use my own layout and colour schemes.
See my site to get an idea of what I mean.
Cheers
Ok -
Did you use the custom screen function or did you write your own html page?
I’ve played around with the custom screen, but just can’t get a handle on it yet.
Very nice page you’ve made - I’m going to have to get a handle on that custom screen function if that is what you used.
Yes i have used a custom screen as well - it is the image you see below attached as my signature.
The custom webpage is different to the custom screen. You design it yourself in html but using some of the tags that can be found in the “owntemplate” text file which should be in your wdisplay directory.
my custom webpage is called wxlocal.html and has the tags that I want to use. And when you setup the custom webpage screen in Weather Display (setup > control panel > FTP/internet setip > custom webpage tab) Weather Display takes the wxlocal.html and replaces the tags in there with live data and then uploads the page to the web as wx.html.
Hope that makes sense to you.
Ok - I am probably getting the two mixed up.
I’ve played with the custom screen as I said above.
What I want to do is work with the custom web page. I’m still a little rough with html, but this would be a good learning tool for me.
So…I can use my html editor to create a page using custom tags in “owntemplate”. In the FTP>custom web page I found some good instructions - but I didn’t know about the “owntemplate” - looks like some good information there to get me going.
Time to dig into it and learn.
Thanks
Edit: Just found “samplecustomhtml” and an example too - just what I need for starters.
there is a example table like the wd one that you can get wd to create, that has the csutom tags in it, included with the download,so that, i.e call if wxlocal.html in the web files folder (this is different to a custom screen)
i.e its a custom web page
and then tick to use your exisitng station name in the custom web page setup, as well
So if I have this right…
I need to create a file in the webfiles folder called wxlocal.html - this is where I want to put the html I create.
I looked in FTP>custom web page and I don’t see anything to tick that says "“use your existing station name”
Also, in FTP>custom web page, now when I click on “instructions”, I get a blank screen…
well its not worded exactlu like that
see the attached image
(so tick that and turn on the custom switch (or if you are using the customise internet and file creation upload just set the times to create and upload the wxlocal.html files (and there you can also set the remote file name instead wx.html))
OK - got it - off to start experimenting.
Thanks!
good for you snowman
i am here to help you along
I’m getting there - one (more) question…
It says to create and upload a file called wx.html
Should this file be blank, or should it contain everything I create in my local folder wxlocal.html?
where does it say that?
WD creates and uploads that file (and renames it if needed on the server)
its automatic
you dont need to create or upload it
the wx.html file is the wxlocal.html with all the custom tags replaced by data, you see
It says that in this paragraph of the instructions. I’m trying to do this step by step so I don’t have to bother you with too many questions.
Create your HTML template using the special tags listed below. Weather Display will
replace these tags with the appropriate weather data (in the units you have chosen)
then create a new file called wx.html and upload it, leaving the original intact.
You can also tick to use the station file name instead of wx.html .
So far I’ve done this. Created a text file and named it wxlocal.html. I copy/pasted the sample code into this text file. I had originally created a blank file on my server called wx.html which stayed blank after the regular web upload. I then copy/pasted the html into that file on my server, and waited for another upload. The page view just showed the table with raw tags.
Now, as you said, I deleted that file on my server. now after the next regular web upload, there is nothing on my server that resembles wx.html.
Kind of stuck now.
did you tick , use my normal web page instead of wx.html ?
is there a wx.html file in the webfiles folder on your PC?
that quote you have there from the instructions does not say for you to create and upload a wx.html file, it says WD will do that…at least thats the way i read it
i know others have got confused too…
post here whats under view, ftp log, view full log, so i can see what is actualy uploaded
A good nights sleep and a day off work to plat with this some more. Sorry if I’m being dumb headed - I know you must have better things to do. I appreciate your help as this as become a challenge (obsession) for me now!
I have ticked "use my normal web page.
There is a wx.html file in my webfiles folder - I opened it and it is my normal webpage from September 23…? So I deleted that to see what would happen - still the same. This is where my problem might be?

just a quick question then…
on the custom webpage screen in WD - have you set the switch on the right to green (on) ??
Yep
I’m posting my custom page sceen so everyone can see what I’ve got - There must be somthing simple I’m missing here…
ok - so your custom page should get uploaded then with the name you have set by “weather station file name” in setup > control panel > web files/web page/SVG
see my example here - my custom webpage is uploaded as wxmain.html
snowman, you will most likely find the file is actualy called wxlocal.html.txt
so you need to set in windows under the folder options, untick, hide known file extensions
do that, then you will see the .txt file extensin, which you will need to remove, via the file rename in windows.
(the clue is that it shows as a notepad for a icon…it show as a IE icon or your default browser icon)
