Cannot Get WD Data to Display on Laptop on Home LAN

I have tried to get this to work numerous times with no success. I have my desktop connected to the WS-2010 weather station, and have a wireless LAN in my home. I use my laptop on this LAN with no problem but cannot get the weather display to function on the WD s/w on the laptop. I tried the procedure in the ONLINE WD help - no luck. I have the desktop set as the Server, and the “Produce the clientraw.txt file” box checked, and the switch ON. The message in the large white box is “Ready to send.” These items are on the Setup Client/Server tab.

On the laptop, I have the Client enabled, and the “Use the clientraw.txt file from this location” box checked at the lower right of the Client/Server Setup tab. Also, the main switch is ON. How does the laptop know where to look for this clientraw.txt file? The only place I can use the “Set Location for Clientraw.txt File” in on the desktop. Clicking this button on the laptop does nothing. I do have the box checked immediately below this button. In the white box on this tab on the laptop, there is a message, “Ready to Receive.” One last thing, on the laptop WD software main screen, the Data Received box is RED and the Data Quality is GREEN.

Can anyone help me sort this out so I can view the WD data remotely on my laptop? Thanks!

Hi!

Normally the “Set Location for Clientraw.txt File” has to be set on the laptop in your case. It’s strange that button won’t work. I also use my network to gather data from my other laptop but I don’t use the clientraw.txt file.

Just enable the server on your Desktop. On your Laptop Enable the server and leave the “Host Name or IP number” on 231.31.31.31 and the port on 333. Ensure WD of your laptop is running in 'Stationless mode". You may uncheck “Produce the clientraw.txt file” and “Use the clientraw.txt” on both PC’s. You don’t need that.

It works with me like that. I only use the clientraw.txt file to gather my data over the internet.

the button, set location for the clientraw.txt, should work (you then select the directory of where it is on the server (i.e the webfiles folder on that pc (that pc, the directory needs to be a mapped drive))
i just tested, works
but try a restart of wd maybe?

I still cannot get that “Set Location” button to work. It works on my desktop, but not on my laptop. I even set the laptop up as a server with the WS2010 as a station type, but the button still did not work. So I set the laptop settings back to Stationless and Client. I also uninstalled the older version of WD and installed the latest version, but still no luck. Is there some other value I may have set wrong somewhere? It’s really a mystery to me – seems like your suggestion should work, IF the button would just work.

hi
ok, it sounds like your windows might have some things missing…?
or some compatibiliyt problem maybe…
as the routine used relies on windows drivers, etc…
but you could set the path remotly
in the wdisplay.ini file
[New webfiles location]
client raw location=

Thanks for the helpful advice. I finally got the current conditions to display on my laptop, by modifying my wdisplay.ini file and using a mapped drive. I still need to read further on the recommended thread, but I am getting results finally. Thanks!!
