Can the forum be improved for tablet use?

I have an issue when using the forum on my tablet where i am replying to a thread. The issue is that by the time I have the keyboard showing I can’t see the text I am replying to unless I go into portrait mode!

After a little research I’m pretty sure the answer is ‘no’. I’ve not owned a tablet for quite a few years so I’ve nothing to test with but I can get an idea of how bad it is in landscape mode on my phone. Once the keyboard is displayed there’s barely any room left for anything else. This isn’t just a Discourse thing…phones in landscape mode don’t seem to be intended to be used for keyboard entry into anything.

There seem to be a couple of specific issues with tablets.:

  1. Tablets in landscape mode have a similar screen format to a desktop screen so it’s difficult to differentiate between access from tablets and desktops. The default screen mode on tablets is desktop which doesn’t help.
  2. Some tablets, iPads were particularly mentioned, seem to make it tricky/impossible to enquire what the screen looks like, e.g. it’s not possible to find out how big the on screen keyboard is so there’s no way to try to reformat the screen to make best use of the remaining space - not that there’s a lot of spare space to do much with!

I know it doesn’t help, but the conclusion of the discussions I found was basically to use Discourse in portrait mode on a tablet.

I half expected that but thought it worth asking!
