I have decided it is about time to do backups now most things are starting to work OK. When I tried to get the backups stored on a different h/d from the program directory it did not work. Is this something I am missing again? I keep my program h/d just for that, programs not data, so when I do a backup I want it some place else! I already have the data and log files elsewhere.
OK, shot myself in the foot a bit again here…not having a good week this week for all sorts of non-weather related things
The main backup zip file does go to where I redirect it, but the setup screen always gets reset back to the program directory after I run a backup, plus the registry back file is created in the program backup dir and not in the new backup dir like I believe it should be. Yes I know it is in the zip file but as I said I try and move all work data off my program h/d.
out of curiosity - can anyone tell me what files are backed up via the auto zip backup function in WD.
I don’t want to run it as last time it crashed WD and corrupted some of my data files.
If I know the list of files I can create copies manually and store elsewhere - I guess it is all the datafiles and all the logfiles, and I could run the backup registry and .ini function - anything else?
Ta
the crash problem is fixed now (been fixed for a while)
I am running here OK, and no other reports of problems now
the files backed up are listed in the databack up window after each auto backup
ok - ta - what files are there in your databackup folder then?
brian/logfiles/122004lg.txt
brian/datafiles/latest.inf
brian/datafiles/month122004.inf
brian/datafiles/monthextra122004.inf
brian/logfiles/122004lgsun.txt
brian/logfiles/122004lg2.txt
brian/logfiles/122004vantagelog.txt
winnt/wdisplay7.ini
brian/databackup/wdisplayftp.reg
ok - so am I right in saying the auto zip backup only backs up the current month’s data/logfiles along with .ini and .reg files?
i guess if you want to archive previous months data/log files it should be done manually?
