This is actually a long story, but basically, I’ve had my eye on a new phone that I wanted and was waiting for some extra money to get here so I could buy it. The web price was $199. I finally got some extra descresionary funds in and was very upset to find out the night before, that deal went away.
I went to the store and the guy there had some which he was treating like gold bars though I didn’t know why at the time. He wanted $259 + tax and 2 year signup.
In the morning I decided to go ahead and pay the big bucks anyway and went in when the store just opened. They guy there then was apparently very flustered. Didn’t even know the phones were there (I showed him where) and couldn’t find the price. He ended up saying the total was $124. I almost couldnt get my credit card out of my wallet after I heard that price…
Later today, I told a few others each of which went to the same store… None of them could get the same price… it was $259 firm… turns out finally one guy persited and asked how I got such a good deal and the sales guy said it was because I work for IBM…
What a day to wear one of my IBM Tech shirts… I don’t work for IBM, never said I did, he never asked and I didn’t know he even thought I worked for IBM. I do work ON IBM AIX boxes, but I’m a big more partial to SUN than IBM. I guess IBM must have a big employee purchase agreement with them though you would think they would ask for ID first… The shirt was one of the freebees we got when we bought some new servers a while back. I only wear them once a week or so… worth about 1/2 off if you wear it right I guess.
