Any Trust Cafe users?

Having found Bluesky to replace Xwitter I’m now looking at my Facebook usage. Facebook is going further downhill than ever with the recent dropping of fact checking (US only at this time) and the proposed use of AI to generate content. The content I see is already pretty much >90% not generated by family and friends so it takes a lot of wading through to find things I’d like to read.

I’ve been looking at options…there’s Diaspora*, Trust Cafe and a few others. None particularly well know or widely used.

After looking at options I discovered that Trust Cafe is the new name for WT-Social. WT-S was launched in 2019 and I created an account back then. I didn’t use it though because at the start the system was pretty empty and had hardly any users! There are some users, and content, there now so I thought I’d start using my account and have a look at what the system is like. Am I the only weather-watch user or are there others of you already using it?

Of course using something and convincing others to use it are two very different things. However, if I start to use something other than Facebook maybe I can encourage a few people to move and therefore start to reduce my Facebook usage.

I still fb but only because family is on it, I only have about 6 friends and am fed up with fb keeping suggesting 100s of people I don’t know as friends! I don’t think I’ll change any time soon but will ignore fb suggestions.

I have quite a lot of family and friends on FB, but like you I get loads of random suggestions of people to follow, many with no obvious connection to me.

I estimate that only 1 in 4 posts are people or companies I’ve chosen to follow. Posts are in some weird date order which means if often see posts from weeks ago coming back to the top of the pile.

It’s no longer fit for purpose to me which is why I want to move, and take as many family and friends with me as possible.

I started to use Fluff Busting Purity addon a long tjme ago which still does clean up quite a lot of fb problems. Main issue is it is not officially supported on Android Firefox but is on Chrome and derivatives.
