Dave,

I believe that rain is reported (IF reported) would be under Remarks and not all metars report rain based on what I can find.

It would be reported as P0059 (example is 0.59" rain since last observation) It also appears that some Metars that report rain only report the total in last 24 hours at the 12Zulu observation)
