NWS forecast issue now resolved.
so reading thru all these NWS threads, i’m not 100% sure which version I should use… My forecasts are broken and I use the forecast discussions also script. Should I just update using template update? or what version of the script do I use?
Here’s the definitive answer (I am the horses mouth )
Use either of:
advforecast2.php V4.03 (for the page-scraper script and https to weather.gov) download
or
advforecast2.php V5.05 (for the JSON version to the beta api.weather.gov) download
(Note that the latter V5.05 version is included in the updates to Base-USA template set)
forecast-discussion.php V1.06 (for https to weather.gov) download
(not included in updates as this is a ‘standalone’ script)
I hope this helps…
Thanks Ken, I will update these later and hopefully that will solve the issues.
Hi Ken, I contacted godaddy and they couldn’t bring me a solution. Do you think that by moving to linux should correct the problem with the script?
Perhaps … it is a more widely-used platform for websites (*nix/Apache/PHP).
I’d suggest downloading the V4.03 advforecast2.php script from the above and giving it one last try before switching. Just download, make no mods, and upload to your site. If that works, then make your mods to the script (for primary URL to point-printable forecast). If that doesn’t work, then it’s your mods. If the unmodified script doesn’t work, then time to switch to Linux/Apache.
Ken – I tried v5.0 advforecast2.php and get a warning.
Warning: curl_setopt() [function.curl-setopt]: CURLOPT_FOLLOWLOCATION cannot be activated when safe_mode is enabled or an open_basedir is set in advforecast2.php on line 1222
and nothing works…
is there something else I need to install besides that script change?
Hmmm… check-fetch-times.php?show=info show you have cURL installed and SSL should be functional. You are running PHP 5.3.29 which is REALLY OLD … do you have a Plesk or cPanel option to run your site on PHP 5.6 or 7.1 or 7.2? If so, try updating the PHP version. If that’s not possible, contact the tech support for your hoster and complain about not having SSL work on your site. Report that error message to them. That shouldn’t be happening on a properly configured PHP installation (your hoster’s responsibity).
