Adding a screenshot/image to a post/message

Someone asked about how to add a screenshot to a post or message, so having written an answer for them I thought it would be a good idea to publish it for everyone else to read…

Adding a screenshot is very easy and can be done in (at least!) two different ways.

  1. If you use the Windows Snipping Tool to grab the screenshot, then crop/mark it up using the tool. When you’ve finished editing the image, use the Snipping Tool copy option and then paste (Ctrl+V or equivalent) the copied image into the Discourse post/message editing window at the place you want it to appear. The image will be uploaded automatically and the required file name/information added to the post/message to allow the image to be displayed.

  2. If you already have an image file on disk, e.g. as a JPG or PNG, that you’d like to upload, pick the place in the message where you’d like the image to be displayed and then click the Upload button in the post/message window ‘formatting bar’…

You will be prompted to select the file(s) to upload. Yes, you can upload multiple files using this method.
When you’ve selected the file(s) click the Open button. After it’s (they’ve) uploaded the file name/information to allow the image(s) to be displayed will be automatically added to the post/message.
