1-wire Solar Life expectancy

Have you read this he replaced his diode??

i did disconnect the main lead from the board when I tested it. it still grounded out, and the extra one i cant use, doesnt.

This company makes the diodes, but doesnt have any cld240… Thats a bummer.

I seen that, but it doesnt say where he got more diodes. It is the same exact problem Im having though.

Maybe you can email him and ask?

I got a few emails out about it. Heres a list of the diodes that Clariex sells. And the cld240e is on there. I’ll call them tomorrow.

I already read that It looks like the E may work also…?
I found this on another forum site thru google.here’s what it says…

“We changed the photodiode we use mainly because of difficulty with the manufacturer of the CLD240E so we no longer offer it. We don’t have the replacement on the website yet but it should be there in a few days. If you need a new sensor in the mean time then you can contact me at [email protected] and I will get you taken care of.”

The diode in that post that someone mentions is not the one he uses anymore. They look totally different.

Clariex by the looks of it still sells the cld240e, just not the cld240. Least thats what I’m hoping.

I found a supplier out of CA. So thats good news. Going to call them after work.

Great hope they can help you out!!

Yes, I get the same. Usually lasts about 14 months before I loose readings. I bought some spare diodes when I bought the board and just resoldered.

Not sure of the cause, but putting the faulty diode in the breadboard and checking with a voltmeter gives me no output, or a very small deflection in strong sunlight.

It’s a very small area PIN diode. With a simple multimeter you can check ohms in both directions to see if it’s still a diode, and if it the meter has a very low current range (microamps) you should detect some current in sunlight.

Got my new sensor today. All up and running good. Eric changed the photodiode style. Hes also sending me a couple extra.

Glad to hear your back in working order!!!

Thanks… I got changing these sensors out in record time I think now…lol Hopefully this one makes it through winter.
